Do you get upset when you make a mistake? You made a mistake that you regret?
There are no mistakes in life, but experiences that you learn from. Each mistake that you do contains a lesson that you should learn from, so you correct and avoid the mistake from happening again. If you start viewing mistakes as learning opportunities, you will reduce the pressure, become an optimist individual and gain more confidence in yourself.
Many people when they make mistakes, start blaming themselves. You as a human being can’t avoid making mistakes as long as you work and deal with people. Some people try to avoid mistakes by not working and by not dealing with people, which is really a big mistake. Mistakes are true gift from God that he has given us because he wants us to learn and gain various experiences in life.
There are others who refuse to acknowledge the mistakes that they do and blame them on others. They try to play the victim role, want to appear perfect, and completely deny any involvement in making the mistake. Those kinds of people have not learned to take full responsibility for their actions.
To learn how to deal with your mistakes, follow the quick guide below:
1. Accept your mistakes
You have got to accept the idea that you are human and capable of making mistakes. You might make a wrong decision, hurt or offend someone. Learn to take advantage of every mistake that you commit. Making a mistake might hurt you for some time, but you have got to move beyond that and learn from these mistakes, so you can avoid them in the future.
2. Raise your awareness
You have to be aware of your thoughts, beliefs, and actions, so you know how to improve yourself. Look for the weak areas in your life such as limiting beliefs that cause you to make mistakes and then try to change these limiting beliefs, habits, and actions.
Be aware of what you do and why. For instance, you are responsible for what you do or say to people. There is something called emotional intelligence that teaches you how to deal with different people skillfully. You have to be aware of what you do or say, so you won’t end up saying something that you will regret later on.
3. Search for improvements
Instead of wasting your time thinking about who made the mistake or who is most responsible, look at the situation as a whole and see how you can change it for the better. Ask yourself, what can you do to make this situation better and correct the mistake? What can you do to change yourself for better? View what happened as an experience that will improve your behaviors and habits, so you won’t make the same mistake again.
4. Ask
Ask people for their unbiased opinion. Your close friends the ones you trust can see the event from a different view. Sometimes you are immersed in the situation to the extent that you are not able to see the situation for what it is. Many of your friends will see what has happened from a neutral position and will give you unbiased opinion.
5. Congratulate yourself
Congratulate yourself for what you have learned from these mistakes and experiences. Remember that each experience that you went through taught you something and added value to your life. Congratulate yourself for taking responsibility for what has happened and give yourself a pat on the shoulder.
Always remember what Winston Churchill said, “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.”
