If the world is an illusion meant to be transcended, why does it exist at all?

To answer your question, let’s study the following words of Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an Enlightened being, very carefully. He says: “This puzzle has come about on its own, governed by the laws of science. I am telling you that this world is run only by Scientific Circumstantial Evidences. In Gujarati, I call it 'Vyavasthit Shakti'... It is all run by scientific circumstantial evidences. The whole world is run by this energy. These words are not easy to understand, unless you think about them very closely. When two atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen come together, we automatically get water. That is the work of vyavasthit shakti. Nature means coming together of circumstances... The World has Come into Existence Naturally Lord Krishna has said, “This world has come about naturally (swabhavik).” This world has indeed arisen naturally. It runs naturally and it is run by the energy called vyavasthit. The seed of a banyan tree is even smaller than a mustard seed and yet it holds enough energy for the whole banyan tree; the whole banyan tree is in the form of energy within it. Vyavasthit brings all the circumstances together, and as per its nature, it grows into a banyan tree as a result. The world is natural and its very nature is such that it will continue to run forever. From the banyan tree comes the seed, and from the seed comes the banyan tree. Even when One attains Liberation (moksha), It happens naturally. Lord Ramchandra left (attained liberation), Lord Krishna left, and yet the world goes on. Now let’s Analyze our World of illusion... Param Pujya Dadashri explains how this illusion has taken place: “How long does it take for a shadow to arise in the light of the Sun? When anything comes in front of a mirror, how long does it take for a reflection to arise? How is it happening? That activity is natural. rnSimilarly, coming together of the two eternal elements jad (matter) and chetan (Self), illusion arises. As a result, the wrong belief of 'I am the doer' arises. And through that, this cycle of worldly life after life continues.” To believe the energy of another to be one’s own, is known as illusion... The world runs naturally. No one in this world is a ‘doer’. Yet, to say that ‘I am doing,’ is egoism. This illusion continues to prevail under the umbrella of egoism. There is no doership in the Soul, which is our real Self. The nature of the Soul is just to see and know and it is full of bliss. Param Pujya Dadashri explains illusion with some more examples, so that we can understand better: “Say, you have built a home half a mile away from the beach so that you get fresh air. One day, you unload a couple of trucks of pure iron near it, and instruct the watchman, 'Keep an eye on the iron.' Then, you go away to some foreign country for two years. When you return, will you see any difference in the iron? (It would be all rusted). Now tell me, who caused the rust? Prove it to me that whose rust is it and with whose wish it occurred? Who did it? People, with illusion, try to find out exactly who is guilty... One may blame you, 'Why did you put it there? That is why it rusted.' But it isn’t like that. What people are seeing is visible proof. Visible proof will not do. You need exact scientific proof. People or courts require visible proof, but we need exactness here. So, you have to scientifically investigate who did it. Who caused the rust? Who is responsible?rnNow, if you are ignorant of the fact that iron rusts if you leave it at the beach, then you will reprimand the watchman, “Hey, what did you do to this iron? How clean this iron was. How did this happen then? The watchman will say, “I did not do anything. Why are you scolding me? You left it here, so it is bound to rust.” People around will then tell you that it rusted because it was left near the ocean. So, did the wind do it or the ocean did it or the iron itself did it? You fire the salty air, “Why did you ruin my iron?”, and it will tell you, 'I did not ruin it, why do you accuse me unnecessarily? If it were in my nature to spoil, I am constantly flowing, but nothing happens to wood and the other things. Iron only must be such; that is why it happens.' Like the air, the ocean too answers, 'What can I do if your iron itself is like that? No one else is affected like that. It is not our fault. Why do you unnecessarily get on to us? It must be iron’s fault.' It is scientific circumstantial evidence! Iron has not caused this rust either. If it were its nature to rust, then there is iron in the RCC (reinforced construction concrete). RCC has iron rods in it, which when removed after years, you will find are intact (without rust). So, that is not its nature. (The rust happens naturally, automatically, when the circumstances come together.) From this example, do you understand what I am trying to tell you? No one is at fault. Yet, you see rust on iron. That is how the world has arisen. Rust is verily the ego In this example, iron is symbolized as the Soul, and what has adhered on it, is the ego (illusion) that has arisen. The illusion causes worldly existence, life after life. But just as when rust occurs on iron, no one has caused it; similarly in our case, the ego has arisen. The Soul (our real Self) is indeed in a liberated state; it has not had any ignorance ever. But due to circumstances of two elements coming close to each other, the additional attribute (egoism) has automatically arisen. The coming together of the element of matter (jad tatva) with the element of Soul (chetan tatva) has given rise to the ego. And when the Enlightened One removes that ego, everything settles down. He gives us Atmagnan (Self-Realization) and it’s done (we get liberated!). Our goal is achieved; we will not have any worries thereafter. Moksha (liberation) is actually one’s own inherent nature (Swabhaav). ‘I’ just has to attain the realization of its Real form (Soul, the Self)). Our world has arisen because of ego (illusory belief), and ego stops after attaining Self-Realization (realizing that really who am I?) Illusion is like a ‘fog’, therefore we are not able to See things as is. Once the fog clears away, visibility will be there. The Enlightened One can help release that fog. Thereafter, without any effort, the Self sees and knows all the phases of anything (even these cosmic creations), how they were and how they will be, as is!
