If you have back (lower) pain maybe you've heard the saying that 'misery loves company'. Relax, you've got company, because 80% of the population go through back pain like you. Since we all use and abuse our backs it's very likely that most everybody you know has or will suffer with you.
The good news is that since it is so common there is a lot of excellent information and expert advice available. Since I'm part of that 80% myself I know it firsthand and also have devoted the past 30 years professionally helping others to get rid of their back (lower) pain. And with the intense misery that goes with it I could almost say that I am 'over' qualified to to assist you.
My first advice is to enable you to relax and not let fear make it worse. When we're distressed our muscles tighten up and it's very likely that you already have tight spastic muscles as a result of whatever trauma you incurred. Maybe you failed to use proper lifting methods, sustained a fall or just got up with back (lower) pain after sleeping or sitting.
Either way, if practical, you should lay down on a firm surface (floor) with your knees bent or lower legs over a chair seat to help relax the back muscles. If you've had a recent injury you might want to get some ice on the area 15-20 minutes each hour for the first 48 hours to address the pain and reduce inflammation.
Next you should try different stretches to encourage relaxation of the muscles. Muscles are designed to contract (shorten), so when they are injured, especially if the nerves controlling them are irritated, the muscles contract involuntarily (spasm) causing back (lower) pain. This in turn pulls on the already tense nerves further irritating them which then creates a vicious pain cycle.
Stretching elongates the muscle fibers helping them return to their relaxed state. It works a little a like when you get a cramp in the calf muscle while in bed and it 'makes you' stand up to walk out the muscle spasm. If you can't lay down comfortably you might try another type of relaxation that's gentle, like walking, while also doing some deep breathing, the kind that fills your whole chest and abdomen with air.
Although bed rest might be called for at first, especially if that's the most comfortable position for the moment, but don't stay there very long. Staying in any one position too long generally will make the pain and discomfort worse. 'Listen' to what your body (pain) is telling you and perhaps alte
ate positions.
If you have chronic back (lower) pain then it's probable you've attempted the commonly prescribed medications such as muscle relaxants or anti inflammatory drugs called nsaids and are looking for alte
ative treatments. Also, it's plausible that your problem will require extensive care from a health expert that specializes in spinal manipulation or other natural treatments. Even so I strongly recommend you practice the method I've described above since it effectively increases your chance of success and will contribute to your overall health and wellness as well as your peace of mind.
