Discipline word best describes the feeling of punishment that all of us have experienced in our childhood days. Childhood memories of those actions of discipline can make people resist the evil thoughts of being disciplined, since the word has that negative stigma attached to it. Indiscipline is taken as unfortunate in the society, institution and work place. We should have one important ingredient in our lifestyle and that is self-discipline and self-control, which is the best recipe of success.

Whenever you are in charge of a group of people in a company, one of your top priorities should always be to maintain office discipline. That includes making rules and regulations in which your coworkers/employees should abide by. You should be a good guide and role model and remember to not be a threat for the staff – you get more bees with honey. If you excessively interfere and bother them you will definitely irritate them, which will consequently lead to them not respecting your authority as much and can affect their productivity.

A manager should maintain a balance and create a healthy atmosphere for everyone to work with ease; that’s would happy work environments create: efficiency. Don’t ever lose your temper nor control for clarifying and solving any situations that arise. Work dedicatedly and show your employees the importance of coming in on time, not wasting office hours and working smart.

This is where Green Office Guidelines come into play. Creating office discipline geared toward sustainability is something that everyone can participate in, and give your entire team a stake in the company. By having a green office, it creates a tighter team bond and a stronger sense of teamwork, which is exactly what you want to foster. There are few tips that are very basic instructions yet play an important role in office discipline ways:

  1. Switch off your computers after you are done with the work. People fail to understand this common attribute and leave their PCs/laptops on overnight. You can save a lot of energy everyday if you turn off your office computers properly everyday and on weekends.
  2. You should also switch off other systems as well if people forget to do so, which will prove to your team your management skills and will promote your work in the office. When doing so, however, don’t think too much about it or talk about doing it; just do it. Lead by example.
  3. Save electricity by switching off all unnecessary lights in your office.
  4. Save paper and make use of your server systems to avoid the unnecessary use of paper. Employees can use online chat sessions to pass any message and can email all the responsibility to avoid printing it. This is also where putting things on the ‘Cloud’ comes in handy – use Google Docs to save and share documents and information.
  5. Take care of your basic responsibilities like getting rid of your trash and making sure to recycle, as more than 70% of your waste material is recyclable. Encourage your co-workers to lessen their waste material and use the recyclable bin.

These simple instructions can be implemented in any environment to improve office discipline. A manager can print a manual for Green Office Rules to have as a reminder and help foster that ideal office atmosphere every company strives to create.
