For anyone trying to become more productive this is a serious problem. Focus To make this situation even more difficult, add in a thing called multi-tasking. Multi tasking is yet another buzzword, however lots of people have realized that starting lots of things simultaneously does not always mean completing them all. Now we have multiple things all wanting our attention at once, now our concentration is really shot.. Take away don't add If you concentrate on one task at one time you're able to do a higher quality job as well as complete that task. The important thing here is concentration. The ability to concentrate on a single thing at a time is a skill, which takes practice. If you fight to sit still for 2 minutes, you should develop you concentration. To do this you need to practice some mindfulness exercises. Be in the moment The very nature of mindfulness is to entirely focus on one thing at a time, or to be totally "in the moment". It's likely you have noticed this a couple of times when listening to a song, or doing something where you've lost track of time. Concentrating on one thing appears simple however it's far from it. Experimentation The next time you're at the office, make an effort to work on a document solidly for 10 minutes. Try to focus only on the document and do not do any of the following things: Answer the phoner Look at your Facebookr Send an SMS Answer the outlook pop upr Send or receive any messages from any type of systemr Respond to a walk up or talk to a colleague The first few times you try this it will be incredibly hard. Why? Because there may literally be many disruptions. It will take a lot of practice to master this. The power of mastering this is incredibly useful in a work environment. If you can focus on one thing at a time you will find your level of productivity skyrocket. At home it's understandable there will be an enormous amount of distraction. However if you can find only a few minutes a day to practice concentrating on something you'll easily recognise the rewards. Deliver the results with mindfulness exercises With practice you will discover you can actually concentrate on things longer and sharpen your focus into a precision laser able to cut through tasks with ease. This is simply an example of mindfulness exercises. Why not discover more about mindfulness exercises and how they might help you!
