Clonazepam (promoted under the trademarked name Klonopin in the U.S.) is a prescription drug sanctioned for use in controlling seizure disorders in adults and children of all ages plus panic disorders in adults. It is also used “off-label”as a remedy for sleeplessness, alcohol withdrawal, Parkinson's symptoms, schizophrenia, PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and restless leg syndrome (RLS).
Clonazepam is categorized in a sort of medicines named benzodiazepines. The entirety of the benzodiazepine family work by enhancing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a brain chemical that is naturally calming. GABA lowers nerve cell activity to promote relaxation and diminish nerve excitement. This style of drugs are known as tranquilizers, sedatives, and central nervous system (CNS) depressants.
Clonazepam can be bought in two forms– as a regular tablet or as an orally disintegrating tablet. Consume the usual tablet intact with a glass of water. To take the clonazepam orally disintegrating tablet place it in your mouth and permit it to dissolve without chewing. Swallowing numerous times maybe required as the tablet dissolves, a liquid may be drank to assist with the swallowing.
Initial dosage for adults being treated for seizure condition should not exceed 1.5mg/day separated between three doses. The dosage can be raised in increments of 0.5 – 1mg every three days until seizures are under acceptable control, or until the side effects preclude any further increase. The maximum suggested daily dose is 20mg per day.
The aimed-for dose for almost all adult patients using clonazepam for the treatment of panic disorders is 1mgevery day. This dosage was determined by a fixed dose study where the outcome revealed that the highest possible desired outcome occurred at 1mg per day. Doses of 2, 3, and 4mg per day were less effective, and increased unwanted side effects. Some patients do find it necessary for elevated doses to attain relief, and in those situations the dosage is increased 0.125 to 0.25mg every three days until the panic disorder is controlled. Introductory dosage for every patients starts at 0.25mg per day and is increased by that same amount every three days until the target of 1mg is met.
Normal side effects normally include tiredness, dizziness, impaired memory, and slurred speech. Major side effects include hallucinations, no fear of danger, weak or shallow breathing, unusual or involuntary eye movements, pounding heartbeats, painful or difficult urination, pale skin, or new or worsening seizures. If you experience any of these call your doctor at once.
