The recession has hit all of us in some way or the other. We are all looking for ways to cut back and save. More families are spending time at home.

The home is where we nurture and comfort our loved ones. The wonderful smells we create in the kitchen, the cups of coffee on the porch, or the time spent on the couch watching a movie.

Decorating isn't about creating a show house. It is about creating a place where the world melts from your shoulders. Where you help to make memories with loved ones.

What are your feelings when you walk through your front door? Is there so much clutter, and mess that you sub-consciously become frustrated? Is there a nagging "to do list" that never seems to get finished? Does your laundry room seem like it will never be caught up?

These are feelings that you don't need when you walk in your home. So, how do you fix this problem? How do you begin to love your home and change your feelings of frustration into feelings of peace?

Priorities is the key. Sit down and write a list of things that bother you about your home. If clutter is the main problem, then make another list of all the rooms you would like to re-organize. Take a room at a time. Even if it is once a week. Tackle it! Keep simplicity in mind when deciding what you really need to keep.

I promise, there is nothing as rewarding as de-cluttering a room or a closet! It feels so great!

We all carry around a backpack in life. These backpacks are filled with many things that we have no choice but to carry. But, how many of us are carrying around extra bricks in our backpack that we just do not have to carry?

Can I say that if your home is a frustration to you, and if it is such a mess that you cannot find inner peace, that you are carrying around a huge brick! Life is so short! Life is so tough! If you can't rejuvenate in your own home that is a problem!

Don't you owe it to yourself to conquer the clutter? Don't you owe it to your family to create a relaxing place for them?

It is not about keeping a perfect house! But, if clutter is your nemesis, it controls your mood. You're not happy to cook dinner, or spend time doing an activity with your children.

As an interior decorator, many times I will visit a new client, and realize that before we can even start on decorating, we have to start getting rid of the clutter.

This is the first step to peace. This is coming from a person who had to learn this lesson and discipline herself to manage a household.

Sometimes what we fear the most, is best conquered head on! You can do it! You deserve it! Take that brick out of your backpack and feel wonderful!
