The media drone is all around us; the economy stinks, it’s tough to make a buck...blah, blah, blah. I’m here to remind you that you must focus on opportunities rather than challenges in your home based franchise.

You probably know most of what I am going to share with you, but maybe, for whatever reason, you are not using these ideas or just not emphasizing them in the marketing platform of your home based franchise. Open up your mind, start to think outside of the traditional marketing box and get to work!! My first idea for you is to reinvent the products and services in your home based franchise to fill a new or different void.

Take a look at the market out there and see if you can twist your product or services to fill voids that are currently being made in today’s economy. A few examples might be a home based cosmetic company vs. what department stores have to offer, home based weekly cooking companies vs. the traditional expense of dining out, home based financial education systems vs. paying tons of money to financial advisors and wall street, cost effective home based wellness products vs. the mainstream health care system to name just a few of the home based franchises that could and should be thriving in this type of economy when you choreograph your marketing properly.

The key is to get creative with your marketing and give the consumer the value that they need with the product quality and service that they want. You need to marry the two.

Don’t hold back or be stingy; when appropriate give free samples to your prospects so they can see the quality of your product. Give away free courses or a CD showing a sneak peak of the value of your products and services. You want f your prospects to see the quality, service and value you offer vs. what the mainstream corporations may be offering at this time.

Once your prospects, leads and customers realize that they can continue to get quality, designer like products they will start to at least think about doing business with you. But remember the proof is in the pudding. You need to first prove you have the quality, and then you must over deliver on service. Quality products and quality service in today’s market will be a winning combination for your home based franchise, no matter what business you are in.
Get creative with the products that you are selling and reinvent the same products to fill the void that you see in your market. If you have questions or would like additional information give me a call or shoot me an email. I would love to hear from you. Have fun and of course take great and unique action.

Back in the late 1980’s, the Honda Motor Company ran a memorable series of commercials, the basic premise of which was that the company’s cars were so amazing, they sold themselves. This commercial’s “hook” was that it featured a salesman who was bored out of his mind and had nothing to do because the cars were so in demand they were practically walking off the lot. The brand’s slogan at the time was “Honda, the car that sells itself.” Ha!

Excerpt from the book "Chase the Championship - Kicking Ass, Taking Names and Becoming a Dealmaker!" Stay far away from the boss’s underlings when you are in search of a decision. The heads of Marketing, IT, Human Resources, or whoever else is part of the “decision-making chain” for the product or service that you are selling should never be the people that you go after for a commitment.
