Writing Life of J.K. Rowling
The writing life of J.K. Rowling began in 1995 when Rowling finished her first manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on an old manual typewriter. The book was then passed on to12 publishing houses and got rejected by all 12 of them.
However, after much efforts, Rowling got her first contract with Bloomsbury, a small London based publishing house. The first book came out in 1997 and was an immense hit with the masses with the copies today valued between £16,000 and £25,000.
This set the beginning of a never ending Harry Potter saga for Rowling and her writing career shot her from rags to riches, with the big screen adaption of all of her Potter books.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stoner
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was the start of Rowling’s career and it was first released on the 30th of June, 1997 in the United Kingdom. It was the birth of Harry as we know him today.
It introduced Harry and his world of wizardry, magic and awe-inspiring events to the world. Harry’s past and present are illustrated before he goes on to enroll in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Originally thought of as a children’s book, Harry Potter’s world began attracting older readers as well and diversified its target audience.
The second installment of the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released on the 2nd of July, 1998. Once the world of Harry Potter had been revealed to the readers, the people were now introduced to the depths of the personality of the villain-in-chief; Lord Voldemort.
Harry faced challenges within the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the story takes a relatively darker turn from the first installment as Lord Voldemort’s evil intentions were shown and Harry battled a monstrous Basilisk within the Chamber of Secrets in the school.
The final book in the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released on the 21st of July, 2007. It marked the closure of the series and the final battle against Lord Voldemort.
The book was the darkest in the series and it set the tone for adult readers as well. The final book revealed the deaths of several important characters and marked the closure of a ten year frenzy which is still celebrated today. The Deathly Hallows referred to several previous books and is being adapted into film as we speak.
