If you ask elite athletes, one of the most important things they've done to reach the pinnacles of their sports, you'll find that many will give you the same answer. What do they have in common? It's mental preparation. This article will explore why mental preparation's important and how it can get you to your fitness goals more quickly than without it.

Now, I realize many of these people are gifted with talent neither you nor I possess, but very often the key to their success is approaching competition with more mental preparation than their opponents. Why is this important when your goals are nowhere near the peaks these icons strive for? Because proper mental preparation can not only increase the quality of the results you achieve, but also the rate at which you realize them. One of the largest parts of physical effort is the mentality that goes along with it, and if you take that kind of attitude into your workout you'll be surprised at the results you end up with.

The reasoning behind this is simple. It's easy, especially if you don't enjoy what you are doing, to zone out during a workout or just cruise through it, anything to get it over with! That's why it's essential to "Love your workout". But more importantly the last things you want to do are waste your valuable time, and have to spend more of it getting where you want to be. This is why it's so vital to concentrate on what you're doing during training.

There are many ways to achieve this. First, visualize your workouts before you enter the gym. See yourself doing the exercise in its most correct form, see yourself exploding through each rep and see yourself working your muscles to failure. Tell your mind it's going to be an excellent session. Feel your muscles burn in your mind. All these things will help prepare you for the effort to come.

Next comes planning, know exactly what you're going to do beforehand. What muscles are you working? Is it a heavy or light day? How many sets and reps will you do? What did you do last time? Have you made improvement? It's critical to use a log to keep track of these specifics. This will not only help you know what you're going to do but will give you an idea of what progress you've made as well. Another tactic; time yourself, make sure you're making the most of your time. Leave 60 seconds or less between exercises or on a heavy lifting day wait until you're breathing is back to normal. Do not sit around!

Finally there's the workout itself. While you are working out think about the muscles you're working on. Concentrate on the specific movement during each rep. This will force your mind to work the muscles harder. For all these things to be of benefit to you, you must first know your "why." That is, the reason you're working out in the first place. This is something only you can decide. Be specific. Saying, "Because I want to get in shape." is not a "why." What are your goals? What's it worth to you? What's your motivation? These questions are the basis to your "why" and crucial to your mental preparation. The reason must hold emotional attachment for you or it'll be easy to become distracted. Give yourself a timetable with both short and medium term goals to achieve and stick to your program. You'll find that mental preparation will defeat distraction and get you to your goals more quickly. For More Information Go To http://www.fitnesskeys4u.com And Pick Up Your Free Health Chart.
