Powered by your chest cavity, projection stops vocal abuse. And, it comes in very handy if you do any of the following on a regular basis:
- root for your favorite sports team;
- get your children to listen to you;
- work in an environment where there is a lot of noise;
- do any form of public speaking;
- campaign;
- teach;
- coach;
- train;
- act;
- preach;
- read out loud;
- speak in a loud bar or club; and/or
- talk on the phone for great lengths of time.
Vocal abuse is an ever-growing conce for many, many people. The problem with vocal abuse is that if you do not change the cause for the abuse, it will only continue. Even if you develop nodules on your vocal folds and are able to get rid of them, should you continue in the same manner of speaking that caused the problem in the first place, the hoarseness, sore throat, loss of voice, and/or nodes will return.
The answer is to learn to power your voice by means of your chest cavity which will immediately lessen the wear and tear on both your pharynx and larynx. Presently, you are not using your chest cavity as one of your resonators. Instead you are relying on your nasal passages, mouth cavity, and particularly your throat and vocal folds to do the work. When you take the largest of your resonators – that huge cavity in your chest – and power your sound from there, the effect will be dramatic.
Not only will you sound better, but a voice that is projected does not hurt your listeners’ ears!
