Any time that you want to teach a child another language, the key is to start when they are very young. Man professionals will tell you that teaching greek for kids can be easily done if you integrate the language with English when they are infants. Many parents have done this and it can be quite successful as long as you keep doing it on a daily basis. So if you want to teach your child another language, then do it. As said before, one of the best ways for children to learn Greek is to start at an early age. Instead of only relying on traditional classroom learning, we always encourage teachers and students to try out other options. For example, a fascinating genre is Greek mythology for kids. Instead of having them read it in English, look for a Greek version instead. Normally, when people start learning a new language, it is normal for them to translate English to Greek in their minds. However, when they become more immersed in the new language, they find that they automatically understand the Greek words. Having taught Greek for kids for several years, we have learned that they catch on quickly and can be taught as early as preschool. Before your child starts school, there are many things you can do at home to make it an educational experience. When teaching greek for kids , start off slowly, by teaching them the alphabet. Introducing the sounds of each letter might take some time for them to understand, so just remember to be patient. Then you can make the sound, and have them point to the correct letter on a board. Just take your time, and in time they will pick up on this easily. Another fun technique that we have seen parents use with kids is reverse reading. For example, when reading an English book, ask them to translate English to Greek . By doing this, the child has to search their minds for the correct vocabulary to fit the story. The same can be done with Greek to English. At the local bookstore or library, look for Greek videos or audio CDs. Children love cartoons, and when they watch one in Greek, parents can later ask them to explain the story from English to Greek or vice versa. It is equally important for children to develop their Greek writing skills as well as conversational and listening skills. This approach results in an all-rounded language learning experience.
