Letting go of anger is not easy. Anger seizes you like a demon has come to possess your mind. No matter how hard you try to resist it, it clings to every fiber of your being like glue. Despite knowing that you’re only torturing yourself, you continue doing it.

That’s the ghastly power of anger. It’s a devastating spell you cast upon yourself, and only you can banish it. No matter its great seductive power, anger – just like any other negative emotions – can be blotted out of your system.

You don’t have to read piles of self-help books to be able to let go of anger from every molecule of your being.

You don’t have to scare yourself silly by reading about the destructive effects of anger on your emotional and physical health – how high levels of hostility could lead to heart attack or other heart diseases (because your body pumps out a variety of toxic chemicals when you’re in an angry mood).

You don’t have to consult a psychiatrist and pay astronomical fees just to be able to master your own emotions.

You don’t have to go to a spiritual counselor to inject your mind with spiritual juices to calm your nerves.

All you have to do is to turn off your Anger Switch. As simple as that. Just like pressing the “Off” button in your TV remote.

But what “Anger Switch” am I babbling about? Is this a joke or something?

No, I’m not kidding. There’s really an Anger Switch in your system. Everyone has it. We won’t survive without it. It’s our built-in defense mechanism to protect us from the trauma and trials of life right from the time of our birth as we leave our mother’s womb.

However, the problem is that we tend to confuse our God-given survival instincts - which sometimes manifest as our Anger Switch - in our dealings with other people.

We see critics as enemies when they’re in fact our “angels in disguise” out there to lead us to tread the right path.

That’s actually the key to letting go of anger – treat critics and all other people whose words and action offend you like they’re your “angels in disguise.”

Direct your mind to this line of thinking: “Why is this guy trying to hurt or provoke me? Why did he enter my life in the first place? What’s his place in my development? Is he just trying to motivate me, make me do my 100 percent, make me a better person?”

If you reflect deeply enough, you will eventually realize that the person you want to kick in the butt is actually there to help protect your butt in case you fall down. He’s toughening you up to be ready to take on any challenge in the future.

When you come to this realization, letting go of your anger will come freely and naturally.
