Lifestyle Changes and Binge Eating Disorder Treatment Go Hand-in-hand

Have you recently started a binge eating disorder treatment? If so, you have made the first step toward improving your life and your relationship with food. With this step can come some added anxiety about what your future will bring and the likelihood of your success. Although it is natural to worry whenever you make a major life change, remember that binge eating disorder treatment is designed to make things better for you. Along with treatment, you can begin to incorporate daily lifestyle changes that can help you succeed in this new phase of your life.

If you have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder you may have a tendency to skip breakfast. This is extremely common. One of the first lifestyle changes that you can make is to start eating breakfast every morning. This can help you reduce your chances of overeating later in the day.

Another lifestyle change that you can make is to keep less food in the home. Not having too much food easily accessible can help you reduce your desire to overeat when the stress of life takes over. By having less food in the house, you are less likely to binge eat. In fact, it would require extra steps. Reducing the amount of food you have in your home allows you the time to think about your plan of action and find an enjoyable activity to do instead of overeating. This lifestyle change does require some extra work as you will need to make trips to the grocery store more frequently. In the end, the additional effort will pay off as you free yourself from the grip of a binge eating disorder.

You may think that you need to diet in order to lose weight and become successful in your binge eating disorder treatment. Actually, it may be better to stop dieting completely. Most of the time diets do not result in long-term weight loss. The weight you lose on a diet is usually gained back when you stop dieting. Instead of dieting, you can begin to develop a healthy relationship with your body. You need to begin feeding your body what it wants. This will allow you to give your body what it needs and reduce the cycle of dieting and binge eating. By listening to your body instead of dieting, you can develop a healthy relationship with food.

The last and most important lifestyle change is to completely follow your binge eating disorder treatment. When you miss therapy sessions, it can become harder to stay on the right path. You will begin to discuss your past hurts and various events that have lead to your unhealthy relationship with food. This can be upsetting at times. Just remember that a good therapist will not allow you to go anywhere that could cause more damage. A therapist is there to help guide you through these moments. Trust that you will succeed in treatment.

By entering binge eating disorder treatment, you are taking an amazing first step in a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. There are several steps that you can take at home to aide in this journey. The first is to always eat breakfast. Also, by keeping less food in the home you will have the opportunity to think about your choices before you binge eat. Third, when you stop dieting you can lose weight naturally and be successful in eating disorder treatment at the same time. Make the decision to follow your treatment completely as this will lead to success.
