For many people, the day after Christmas Day is often a ‘let-down’. It seems like the hurry, the pressures, the deadlines, the joy, the gifts, the food – all that which leads up to Christmas just goes away after midnight – poof! Well, the very same thing happens in our business. When you have been working on a major project for any length of time and then it is complete, it’s that same tsunami of emotion that hits us. This can be a very unsettling experience for many – except when you learn to recognize it for what it is. I learned about this, in a conscious way, in discussions at my last Master Mind meeting with my coach, Suzanne Evans. Many of my colleagues were having those feelings – of let-down, of ‘blah’, of …..’is that all there is?” “When you wake up living your dream, it’s not your dream anymore!” – Les BrownI experience this frequently because I dream big, I set goals, I do the work and then…….it is done. Those are the exact 4 steps I want to talk to you about so you get a better understanding of some of the mindset and emotional things that go on when you run a business. 1) Have a dream. Many entrepreneurs have forgotten how to dream – let alone dream big. We live in a society where we ‘settle’ – we live the ‘what’s good enough for me now’ syndrome. That sucks! Stop that. Get back to dreaming big – create that vision board – let your mind wander around the ‘what if’s’. It’s all good. It brings the joy back into life and into your business. 2) Set specific goals. I do love to dream however I also know that dreams don’t come true – plans come true. So, set specific goals that will move you closer to the dream. When you have a dream, you don’t need to know each and every ‘how to’ that is related to it…….right then and there. But you do need to set specific goals to bring the dream to reality. 3) Do the work! No one else is going to do the work for you. As my mentor, Larry Winget, says – it’s called w.o.r.k. for a reason, LOL! Do the work. You will get to where you want to go and grow. 4) Celebrate. When I was in Los Angeles to speak at an event and launch my new book, ‘Stop Compromising and Make All the Money You Want!” – this was the culmination of an intense, high-level seven month speaking and book-writing program. When the event was over, we did celebrate – and properly, too – with food and champagne and friends. YES! This is a critical step. 5) Dream a New Dream. Yes, there is that next step. When I was working as a life coach, and going back to the topic of Christmas, I would tell my clients to goal-set through Christmas – through to Boxing Day and beyond to New Year’s Day. It’s a critical next step to goal set beyond the specific project or event. It keeps your spirits high – it keeps the energy flowing – and it keeps the heart happy. Dream a new dream. Where and how do you intend to go and grow in your business beyond your current project/dream? What exactly is your next step? Who can help you with that? For me, it’s a Mastery Level program so that I can speak on bigger stages – get more coverage in the media and get my message out in a much bigger way. Watch out – there’s no stopping me now!
