Most of us have hair somewhere on our body that we would like to get rid of. As we age, hair seems to appear out of nowhere and in places we least expect to find it. We also seem to lose hair over time on our scalp, which is where we normally want to see a lot of it. Mother nature is a cruel temptress when it comes to hair, by the time we realize we have hair problems, our best years are long gone! This article is going to discuss how you can safely and effectively remove or at least reduce the amount of hair you have on any area of your body. Growing hair is another topic altogether, but we do have some very promising and interesting strategies coming down the pipeline as well as some that area already here. The most common method to reduce the appearance of hair growth is to shave it close to the surface of the skin. This is obviously only a temporary treatment as the hair will grow right back. The advantage is that is is cheap, easy to perform and looks great for at least one day. Some people cannot do this however if they have curly hair, shaving can lead to nasty ingrown hairs that look unsightly and can also cause infections. The term is called folliculitis barbae and the solution is to use an electric razor that doesn't shave so closely. Electrolysis is another method of hair reduction that works, but is rather old and archaic in it's method of hair removal. A small electric current causes irreversible damage to the hair follicle. The biggest downside of this treatment is that each treatment takes a very long time (you have to treat each hair follicle individually) and you need multiple sessions to get rid of a hair. It usually doesn't respond the first time. This leads to very expensive treatments that are only midly effective in the long term. Laser Hair Removal is the most modern strategy to remove hair permanently. This process heats the hair follicle and permanently damages the cells that grow the hair shaft. Is is relatively quick and can result in permanent results. The cost varies, depending on who performs the treatment. If you visit someone who is untrained, they may offer cheap pricing but you can also end up with skin burns and permanent scarring and no recourse. Seeing a properly trained technician at a medical facility will ensure you are dealing with someone who understands the skin and how laser energy interacts with your hairs for the best possible results. Make an informed decision next time you want to remove hair, you have a lot of choices out there but only one layer of skin for the rest of your life.
