Love & Business

Writing this put me in mind of the Tina Turner song ‘What’s love got to do with it?’ And I’m imagining many of you might be thinking the same, particularly in relation to business? Well, my immediate response to that is ‘everything’. Love is the be-all-and-end-all of everything........in life, health, wealth, growth and yes, even in work and business!
Why do I say this? Because over the years it’s become clear to me that we are love and that the meaning of our life is love - love for ourselves, love for others, love for the planet, and love for our work in the world. That we are all meant to live fulfilling, happy, and successful lives, and we can do this by demonstrating our love for ourselves - for our physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing – as well as our love for our environment and for others.
When we choose to set up in business we do so for a variety of reasons such as freedom, independence, balance, or personal fulfilment. To make a difference, to contribute, to give back, or to enhance the life of others in some way. (Money is a by-product of this. In my experience it’s not the overriding reason we go into business.) What are these if not love?
I know this is a different way of looking at business and you may not be feeling the love right now in your business. In fact you might be feeling threatened or worn down rather than enthused and loving about your business!
If this is true for you let me ask you.....
• What would change for you if you came from a place of love instead of fear, blame,
or guilt?
- What would change if you focused on love and abundance instead of lack?(Remember what you focus on grows.)
- How would things be different if, when problems or challenges arise, when mistakes are made, or when everyone else is looking to blame, you were always loving of yourself and others? How would your family life be different? Your business/work life?
I urge you to consider these questions, not to skip over them but to write them down along with your answers, to allow yourself the luxury of a little creative thinking! And I implore you to be easy on yourself if your mind seeks to distract you by judging or ridiculing.
Because this is often your default position where change is conce
ed. This can be what stops you making the necessary changes to improve your situation, and the necessary changes might just be a change in perspective, a shifting of focus.
Getting out of your head, getting in touch with your feelings, and being more creative in your approach to issues is what can take you to new places, to a new reality. It’s what my work is all about.
You get the strategy, the know-how, the action plans and tactics, but most importantly you’re also encouraged to take a different, more creative approach to looking at yourself and your business.

***Rising Like a Phoenix
Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

***Do What You Love AND Make Money
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
