Making Up Storiesn Author Lisa Nichols says, “we use our stories to keep us where we are.” I started thinking, how else could we use our story?

Each and every day we make up a story about our life. We make up stories all day long about everything that happens in a day. Some of the stories we make up are about mundane events of the day. Some are charged with excitement about something new or unexpected that has happened. And then there are the stories we make up that scare us half to death. We have the variety of nightmares, dramas, ”the whoa is me” the “who done it” and of course the all too familiar “ain’t it awful” story lines. The way we tell the story is based on how we perceive the events. Our perceptions are based on the beliefs we hold in our memory bank.

What kind of stories did you tell in the conversations you had today? And yes, I know, things have happened to you. Keep in mind the wisdom from the sages, “it’s not what happens to you, it is what you do with what happens to you.” We have the power to use our stories to keep us where we are or we can become empowered to tell stories that will take us where we want to go. When you empower yourself with this knowledge you begin taking steps to wake up from your own nightmares, to free yourself.

Here is a fun way you can begin to tell your stories in a new light.
When you catch yourself telling a story that is tragic, stop. Remind yourself there is another way to tell the story.
Shift your perception by:
Telling the story from the other person’s perspective.
Telling the story as if it were the saddest tale you have ever heard.
Telling the story as if it were the funniest thing that ever happened.
Telling the story with no emotion whatsoever.

Telling the story from these different perspectives will help you disengage from your current perspective and shift your energy.

Everything that happens to you in a day becomes your story. Empower yourself to tell the story differently. Observe how the events of your life will also begin to shift. Change your perception, change your story, and change your life. Make up stories that get you where you want to go. Make up stories of who you want to be. Make up stories that allow you to feel good about your life.
