Is it time to replace your mattress? - Is your mattress over 8 years old? A common precept of thumb is to replace your mattress every 8 years. But if you don't sleep well, you can throw the 8-year benchmark out the window. Your sleeping habits should be the most important factor in deciding whether to change the mattress. Sleeping badly? It's time for a change.
What type of mattress is best for you? - When choosing a mattress, the best option is foam or coils. The foam offers a great hug, contour, and a unique feeling. The coil is a more traditional feel with good rejection. For most people who sleep, I recommend foam. However, if you are very large (over 250), want a traditional feel, and / or have extreme cooling needs, coils may be the best option.
What is your budget? - choose a budget that works for you. Ideally, you have $ 800- $ 1,000 to spend. This will give you the most opportunities and place you at the luxurious end of the online market. Don't spend less than $ 500 unless you want a mattress that breaks much faster (and is also more toxic).
What level of ownership is right for you? - Most people who sleep prefer firmness in 5-7 of a range of 10. This is suitable for all sleeping positions and most weight/body types. If you are 4 years old or younger, you are probably a partner. If you pass a 7, you probably have a tummy or a back (something far above a 7 is not good for most of those who sleep on their side).
In what positions do you sleep? - Choose a mattress with a firmness that suits your needs. The lateral sleepers range from 3 to 6 out of 10. The back ranges from 4 to 7 out of 10. The belly ranges from 5 to 7 out of 10. Of course, there will be outliers in each of these, but use them as general guidelines for walking.
You weigh and what is your body type? - The support of a mattress is directly related to your body weight. The heavier it is, the more the foam must work to provide optimal comfort. Weight affects the amount of support you will receive from your mattress based on the total sinking point and pressure points.
The age of your mattress plays an important role in choosing a new one. As a general rule, it is probably not a bad idea to consider buying a new one if your mattress is over 8 years old. However, this rule does not apply to all mattresses. Some may span 8 years and still provide the same quality performance. The best way to make a judgment call is to use your sleep patterns.
The type of mattress that each person needs varies according to their personal preferences. With so many variations of mattress types, this may be the most difficult option. Don't worry, I've broken down the most common mattress types below to make your research and choice a little easier.Article author

Mattress firmness preferences are often tied to two factors: sleep position and sleeper weight. Those who sleep on their side typically prefer softer mattresses, while back and stomach sleepers tend to feel most comfortable on 'medium firm' or firmer mattresses.
