Memories in my Mother's Garden

The sweet peas fill the air with their delicate fragrance—rnthe colors in mauve, purple, pink and even red.
The bouquet on my kitchen window sill, brings memories
of childhood.

My Mother always planted the sweet pea seeds carefullyrnunder the breakfast room window.
I remember eating Rice Crispie's with sliced strawberries
from the garden—mingled with the sweet smell of the flowers.

The favorite flowers of those days have resurfaced—
Calla Lilies, Iris, cannas, roses, geraniums, gladiolas,
and lavender, mixed in withrnoh, so many fragrant flowers and herbs—
We all have our favorites—tulips, carnations, mums, and poppies.

The garden is a brilliant carpet of color stretching underrnthe canopy of towering trees.
I catch my breath, as I feel like I am peering into the Land of OZ.

What a miracle these blooms provide—
God’s touch is every where—
It makes my heart swell with love and completeness
as I run joyfully and freely through the garden sprinklers.
