Menopause and the Mind. The LOA Mind Body Connection
From brain plasticity to menopause and the mind... health leaders are making the mind body connection like never before. Tips on how to stay positive, including law of attraction meditation skills are perfectly suited for this time in a woman’s life. Doctor K. Deighan, from Gottlieb Hospital, Loyola University Health System is the latest expert to speak out on this important issue.
Menopause and the Mind
What are the experts now saying? A positive attitude and planning are what women should be exploring to help us through menopause.(1) As a health care professional, and as a women in the age group, this information caught me eye. I have always felt instinctively that there was something not quite right about being pushed by the traditional medical field to ‘take hormones, you’ll be fine’.
Research on brain plasticity and successes with brain exercises led me to a firm conviction that the power of the mind body connection should be one of our first areas of health focus as we approach menopause.
How to Stay Positive through Menopause
Deighan, a Chicago OB-Gyn specialist, is quoted as saying 'I give my peri-menopausal patients a pep talk so they don't get down on themselves. I tell them that they shouldn't just let this transition happen. Women can be proactive about their health and take steps to minimize the side effects of menopause before it occurs.'(2) How? She goes on to counsel on the avoidance of the menoPot, a catchy term for the 5 to 10 pound weight gain commonly seen at menopause, as well the adoption of Kegel exercises once and for all. Her top tips on how to stay positive focus on the 12 key habits a menopausal, and pre-menopausal women should know and include in her routine.
Menopause and the Mind – a Law of Attraction Meditation
The following simple meditation follows traditional law of attraction strategy and can be used as part of your night time routine. Steps:
1. Take a bedtime bath, and organize to do so uninterrupted. Use a timer and set it for 10 minutes.
2. Use a towel or bath pillow to lay back against the tub, and a dark towel or cloth to cover your eyes.
3. Begin by becoming aware of all the comforts and positive sensation of the bath, using all your senses if possible.
4. While breathing deeply, yet comfortably, create mental images, a series of vignettes, depicting yourself being successful in your mind body connection approach to menopause. Examples of what you may visualize: you, at your ideal weight – you, waking up after a good night’s sleep – you, feeling fascinated by your steadily improving mental capacity for memorizing – you, feeling fewer and fewer hot flashes… you get the picture. Your goal is to create healthy positive guided imagery applicable to a healthy menopause and the mind body connection positive experience. Enjoy!
(1) Often misspelled as menapause, other terms for this trans-formative period include change of life, and is commonly seen between the ages of 40 to 60, with the average age of the end of menstruation being 51.
