What does an old Navy Fighter Pilot, who’s an ex-airline pilot and the president of a very successful international charity do after being stricken by a brain aneurysm? Well, he could have rolled up into a little ball and quit right then. But Len Kaine is no quitter … never was … never will be!
In his words, “There is work to do. I have too much to accomplish in helping children!”
Recovery from a brain aneurysm and the surgery that follows is not easy and never assured but with the startling techniques of neurosurgeons, an unsinkable drive to recover and clearly, some well timed divine intervention, Len Kaine was able to slowly, day-by-day and inch-by-inch, work towards a recovery. Well, more than two years have gone by and the recovery continues. He remains driven, his energies focused, “The good Lord has more for me to do before he calls me home”. Three doctors call him a miracle.
So, the question remains, what does a man who comes back from the brink of death do for an encore? He acknowledges the miracle and then gets back to what drives him … his life’s mission!
More than thirty-seven years ago, Len Kaine gathered several like-minded advisors together and launched the Golden Rule Society (GRS) charity. GRS focuses on the children of our military service members, and our first responders—firefighters and law enforcement. Len Kaine’s philosophy in the Golden Rule Society has been a life time goal… ”To better the lives of others is your life’s greatest reward”.
Progress in helping children, churches, and charities began to accelerate as more people learned of the work and joined in the effort. Len Kaine is pleased to announce, “Children everywhere are now joining what’s called the GRS Success Team…the fastest growing and soon to be largest team of winners in the world!”
The program is really quite simple. Children are equipped with the tools of success embedded in the teachings and secrets of history’s most successful people. It comes as no surprise that these teachings have their origins in the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Simply said, “Treat people the way you want to be treated”.
By understanding these teachings and developing the discipline to use the tools, children have a far greater chance of living a successful, fulfilling, and happy life. It’s a simple, yet very powerful concept and while tailored to the children of our military members, veterans, and first responders, it is the pathway to the secrets of success and is open to everyone.”
Children of all ages are offered academic and athletic scholarship opportunities. But, as in real life, they must dedicate themselves to the principles of the GRS and compete for the scholarships.
Len Kaine is quite proud of the fact that that since the formation of the Golden Rule Society in 1972, the GRS founders, advisors, and technical support are all non-paid volunteers. This means that 100% of all funds raised, support the charitable causes and objectives of GRS: education, motivation, inspiration, good health, and character building programs for all children.
