We are always seeking more, better or different. With our 31 flavors of ice cream, streaming video, NetFlix, Tivo and our infinite choices of mates, our incessant getting and spending, our rich profusion of choices, the whole world of “more, better, different” plays a pretty predominant role. This world of “more, better, different” starts out strong, early in our lives — more attention, more cartoons or television time, better toys — and seems only to escalate in scope and variation as we grow — more weekly allowance, more popularity, hipper clothes, more money, different houses and mates. By the time we reach adulthood, this world of “more, better, different” is so second nature and so pervasive that it oftentimes becomes a primary driver for our most important choices and values. We live as if the quality of life is rooted in this paradigm of “more, better, different.” While on the one hand, the world of “more, better, different” is vast, attractive, and seemingly endless . . . nn. . . on the other hand, it is a world limited only to some variation or extension of what we already have, what we can already imagine, what we already know.nnThe Landmark Forum poses that there is another possibility for living — where our lives are an invention, where what we know, what we think, and even who we are — may be completely open to being invented in any number of ways. The Landmark Forum poses we have the ability, instead of operating more effectively or being limited to the paradigms we know, to create whole new paradigms themselves — allowing us to alter the very nature of what is possible.
