Myth Busting For Female Entrepreneurs – Who Do You Believe?

So many women entrepreneurs I speak to and work with have fallen into the trap of believing that having the right information and knowledge and getting your strategy right is the key to guaranteeing a successful business. But for the majority of women in business this just isn’t the case.

I say this because of my own personal experience, and the experience of many of the women I’ve coached.

So what’s really going on here?

Well, if you consider you’re bombarded with information from the time you start your business that says you need a strategy, you need these specific tactics (whether that’s marketing, sales, networking, or social media) in order to succeed. And you believe this is everything you need to succeed. But where are you in this success equation? Do you put this information through your own internal filters? Do you check out how it sits with you in terms of who you are and how you want your business to be? Do you listen to your own body in terms of how it feels to you?

Because I believe as a woman entrepreneur you’re emotionally invested in your business and that if don’t you put this information through your own emotional filters it can all get overwhelming, you can find it difficult to focus, and you can struggle to get the results you actually want!

So, are there certain business strategies, tactics, or actions you find aggressive or competitive? And do they leave you not taking the actions and beating yourself up for procrastinating; or feeling like a fake or like you need to be different (more ‘professional’) in your business; or maybe feeling like you’re just not good enough? If so you’re not alone!

Ask yourself “How is the approach of taking everything at face value (without really checking it out internally) – how is it working for me? Is it serving me well? Or, am I still not where I thought I’d be by now? Still working very hard for little reward? Feeling like there’s something missing?”

Does it feel like your business is a large jigsaw puzzle with a piece missing? A piece that everyone else has? Or maybe everyone else is trying to hide the fact that they don’t have it either? The irony is that you know deep down that it’s you stopping you at some level but you still go searching for the answers exte
ally. For more info, more knowledge, more ‘know how.’ When what you need to do is look within.

Until you can look internally and examine who you’re being and who you really want to be in business – until you know what you need, what you value, and what you fear. Until you can understand and embrace the whole of you – the yin and yang of you, the different parts of you - until you can fully accept, embrace and love who you are, then you will continue to limit yourself in some capacity.

So my invitation to you today is to get to know yourself, to be your own best friend, and to love yourself unconditionally.

I guarantee this will open the door to your own personal truth so you can leave this myth standing, and you can cross the threshold to true success – in your business and in your life.

After all the hours of therapy and self-help, self-discoveries, self-realizations, and self-improvements I’ve made, I just identified yet another layer of unresolved issues that I need to deal with. Can you relate? When will we finally be done evolving and growing into the person who we want to be and arrive “there”—at the life we always wanted?

Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
