It is very common for most women to have nausea during their periods of pregnancy. Most expectant mothers pass through this condition during their first trimester; that is from the 1st – 12th weeks of pregnancy. Others experience it throughout their entire pregnancy and just a few fortunate ones do not face it at all. Statistics show that almost 70 percent of women suffer this during the early stage of their pregnancy. So don't think you are the only one suffering from it because you could be absolutely wrong.

Nausea, also known as morning sickness can be said to be the toughest bit of the first trimester of pregnancy, which may be ranged from mild, occasional to severe, continuous, and debilitating nausea with an increase in the rate of vomiting. Although, to some expectant mothers morning sickness tends to happen in the afte
oon or evening, but to so many others, they face it mostly in the morning time.

During pregnancy, a woman may develop nausea due to high increase of certain hormones that develops the embryo after conception. A typical example of these hormones is the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) which is more in mothers that are pregnant with twins or more multiples, and statistics has shown that, they are prone to higher rate of nausea. Another hormone is estrogen, it can also play an important role because of its rapid increase during the early stage pregnancy.

Studies show that, a greater number of pregnant women have high chances of nausea than others and those suffering from morning sickness are very sensitive to smell and odors. In most cases, the main reasons for nausea during pregnancy are still yet unclear, experts says that in several cases, it can disappear or does not last during the whole period of pregnancy. However, if you're among the majority who are passing through this condition, here are some effective things you can do on your own to combat the problem.

  • You should not be jumping out of the bed as soon as you wake up from sleep, try to get up slowly from the bed and sit down there for some minutes before you move.
  • A good thing do for yourself to help control nausea during the period of pregnancy, is to avoid starvation. No matter how you feel, always try to eat small, regular or frequent meals and take biscuits.

If you do not eat regularly, there is a possibility for your blood sugar to get low is there, which is one of the factors that increases nausea during pregnancy. You should eat more foods high with protein contents and avoid taking in much carbohydrates. Take note, spicy, fried, and fatty foods takes longer time to digest so it’s better you avoid them.

  • Drinking fluids or water in moderation to keep your body hydrated is another way that can help you prevent nausea. Also taking fluid between meals is very good, and try to avoid soda, caffeine, more coffee, odours and smells of foods that triggers you to vomit.
  • Learn how to be in control of different situations about life; it's very vital to be mentally stable during pregnancy and beyond. Talk to people around you about your worries, doubts and you have to acknowledge that, over stressing yourself, and being restless can trigger nausea during pregnancy. Try to follow the easy tips and best ways that can help you control the negative effects of stress.
  • It is best you strive towards exercising during pregnancy; exercise can help you combat nausea, you can take a short slowly walk at least 15 minutes per day and as well, practice relaxation and sleep at any giving opportunity. Thus, doing so will make you feel stronger.

Consult your health care provider if you vomit more than mild, prolonged vomiting has been linked with pre-term birth and low birth weight. Your healthcare provider can recommend anti-nausea medications that are considered safe for your pregnancy. If you are having mild or occasional vomiting without losing weight and getting dehydrated during pregnancy, it will likely not affect your baby. Try to supplement your food with vitamins prescribed by your doctor if you're not eating as required due to vomiting.

Nausea is one of the common symptoms of pregnancy that can be handled by following the above tips. As you can see, it's truly not impossible to handle nausea during pregnancy, which means you can easily get relief from the discomfort.
