Is it just me or have you noticed all the gloom and doom out there in media land? Even a brief channel surfing nets you story after story of loss and negativity. Businesses failing, stock markets tumbling, job cuts, inflation, soaring gas prices - can you feel your stomach sink as you read this litany?

If I listened to all the stories about lack and scarcity I would never be able to get out of bed in the morning let alone go about my life.

Here is what I know; we are just like minicomputers as far as our attention goes: garbage in, garbage out. When we fill our minds with fear and lack we really do create more fear and lack. It is impossible to listen to what passes as news these days and not to get drawn into the fearful group mind think.

I have a radical concept to suggest. Let's go on a negativity diet and turn off our TVs. To be fair, we should include tuning out any newspaper or radio news too. Imagine the impact a week without any media news would have on your mind and psyche. With less negative chatter going into your mind you can create a shift in any life situation.

I recently worked with a client who applied the negativity diet concept to her personal life. She decided to go one week without being negative towards herself, others and her environment. She reported back an amazing result. She felt less stressed and much happier. She was more creative and had more fun. In short, it was a rousing success and left her wanting even more.

Our attention is our energetic currency. It is precious and we must carefully choose what to spend it on and what to feed it. I can't help but wonder what each of us could achieve and create by gorging ourselves on hope, joy and optimism.

How would that diet change your life?

Call to Action:

Commit to going on a negativity diet, even for just a day or two. Restrict what you listen to, not only in the media, but at work, with your family and friends and in your own mind chatter.

Each time something negative comes up, notice it and walk away. Choosing not to engage creates a space you can fill with any energy you please.

What will you choose?
