Osteoporosis is a bone disorder that is common in elderly people and is characterized by thinning of the bone tissues and inability of the body to form new bones or reabsorbing of old bones in the body. Bones are made up of minerals such as calcium and phosphate and with aging the body usually suffices the requirement of these minerals by absorbing them from the bones thereby leading to osteoporosis. It is good to be aware about osteoporosis causes, symptoms and natural treatment for it. As the disorder develops gradually over years and knowing its causes or symptoms are essential to prevent the disorder as well as treating it early. Osteoporosis Causes:
  • Age – Growing age is an unavoidable and prominent risk factor of osteoporosis. 1 in every 5 people, above 50 is most likely to get the disease, with a higher risk for women.
  • Hormonal Level – In women, who attain menopause the body is susceptible to suffer drop in the estrogen levels which may lead to osteoporosis.
  • Corticiosteroids – A few medicines that contain corticosteroids or any such substance may be harmful for the density of the bones and cause osteoporosis.
  • Other causes may include a low -calcium diet, huge alcohol consumption, genetic history of osteoporosis and hyperthyroidism.
Osteoporosis Causes: The disease does not show up any specific symptoms that can easily be associated with the disorder. However, the most common complaint from the people suffering from the condition is easy and frequent fractures. There can be acute and unbearable pain accompanied by fractures. The pain and fractures may even lead to mortality or morbidity to a certain extent. Some of the common symptoms related to advanced osteoporosis are:
  • Gradual height loss over period
  • The fractures in the skeleton or spinal bones may cause back pain or neck pain
  • Development of hump due to loss of density of the bones and an incorrect posture
Osteoporosis Treatment: Osteoporosis has two categories. These osteoporosis types are based on two factors primary and secondary, and so are the names, primary osteoporosis and secondary osteoporosis. Primary osteoporosis is the result of unavoidable factors such as age and secondary osteoporosis is a result of certain lifestyles such as alcohol consumptions, medications etc. Osteoporosis can be better treated with natural remedies as this is a gradual and unavoidable condition for many people. Osteoporosis treatment is aimed at controlling the symptoms and reducing the vulnerability to fractures and pain. Some of the common natural remedies and treatments for osteoporosis are:
  • Regular exercises, especially, the weight bearing exercises are important to boost the bone health. Some popular exercises may be jogging, walking, or swimming are beneficial exercises.
  • Intake of nutrition rich diet especially rich in calcium, vitami K and vitami D is essential to maintain the bone density and health for long. Calcium sources are soy products, yogurt, milk, and green vegetables. Broccoli, spinach and sprouts are rich sources of vitami K. Eating egg yolk, salt-water fish and drink fortified beverages to get adequate vitami D.
  • Stop drinking alcohol or atleast reduce its intake to keep the bones healthy. Also stop smoking as it may affect the bones adversely and also the overall health.
Osteoporosis is a severe bone disorder and is common in the United States. Elderly people usually get affected by this disorder. It is good to know about Osteoporosis causes, symptoms and natural treatments that can prevent the susceptibility of a person to this disorder. The disease may not show up any symptom apart from fractures. It is advisable to follow calcium and other vital mineral rich diet that builds the bones well and maintains its density throughout the life.
