Our Pets Offer Unconditional Love
Written by Janie Behr
Caring for a pet, such as walking or playing with your dog, teaching your dog tricks all are very rewarding and many times gives a person the unconditional love that they can't get anywhere else. My dogs are always happy to see me, never judge me, and love me no matter what is going on.
They sense when I am happy and wag their tails and want to play and they sense when I am sad and kiss the tears off my face. It has been proven in studies that owning a pet improves the owners overall emotional and physical health. When a person is playing and interacting with their dog the physical contact relieves and reduces stress levels in their body. It is proven that people who own pets tend to live longer lives than those who don't.
Taking care of a pet gives the owner a sense of purpose. The responsibility helps people focus on their pet rather than themselves. Perhaps the greatest benefit is the impact a pet has on the owner's emotional needs. Pets provide companionship and friendship that may be difficult to find in other humans. Our pets are unconditionally loving, loyal, affectionate, and can bring comfort and happiness into our lives. Have you heard people say "Dogs are a wo(man)'s best friend? That speaks a lot about the health and emotional benefits of being a pet owner.
Pets also help people interact with others, such as neighbors, friends, by going to dog parks, and places that pet owners visit regularly. When a person is involved in their community, and interacts socially with humans on a regular basis, their quality of life is better. I am visually disabled and the love, guidance and support of my pets offer me is incomparable to anything else in my life.
