People who reside in communities adjacent to the beach regularly see visitors stretched out on the sand, ostensibly sleeping while ‘working on their tan’, in some cases for the entire stay of a vacation. When asked, these people indicate that they are taking a well-ea
ed vacation and just want to have an opportunity to rest, shut down their mental faculties and absorb the sun’s rays. They do not speak about trying to achieve any higher state of conscious awareness; rather, they do what they can to reduce the conscious state to the absolute minimum of the body consciousness as may be possible.

This relatively innocuous situation may replace many other forms of dissipation such as getting drunk, or getting high on drugs, or engaging in promiscuous sex, or engaging in otherwise mindless activities simply to ‘have fun’.

Then there is the consumption of mass media, whether television, motion pictures, or social media on the internet, and the engagement in various forms of behavior that wastes time and focus such as having arguments on the internet, or using social media to demean or belittle others for something in their appearance or lifestyle.

All of these then becomes part of the burden that gets stored away in the memory and in the very cells of the body and thus, can rise up whenever the proper trigger of sight, sound, smell, touch opens up that capsule of memory.

It is no wonder then, that when an individual turns to spiritual development, he finds there is an entire habitual pattern of triggered memories and reactions that come up continually and work to obstruct or divert the attention from the focus on the spiritual pursuits. It may be a song from one’s youth, or some experience one had along the way that rises up and needs to be dealt with in some fashion in order for the focus on the spiritual progress to be restored and become effective.

The seeker soon begins to recognise that all acts of dissipation, lower of the consciousness, whether resurrected from the past or occuring as part of a present response pattern, cause tremendous tiredness and fatigue, both through the sapping of energy and through the closing off of access to sources of new energy from a higher level of consciousness.

As the seeker begins to experience the deep peace that comes with the quiet, meditative state that is turned towards the higher planes of consciousness-force, he can recognise that he feels refreshed, energized, reinvigorated through contact with this higher force. While most individuals, who have not awakened to the spiritual quest as of yet, will not make the effort, the spiritual seeker, who has become aware of the differences in these things, clearly can get a benefit that reduces fatigue, increases energy and the power of concentration and thus, can become an instrument of both enhanced action and enhanced energy in his life. We frequently find that dedicated spiritual practitioners tend to have tremendous amounts of energy available to them, which only increases the more they tap into the higher energetic levels beyond the normal consciousness of the body, life and mind.

The Mother writes: “… what does that [relaxation] mean for most men? It means, always, coming down to a lower level. They do not know that for a true relaxation one must rise one degree higher, one must rise above oneself. If one goes down, it adds to one’s fatigue and brings a stupefaction. Besides, each time one comes down, one increases the load of the subconscient — this huge subconscient load which one must clean and clean if one wants to mount, and which is like fetters on the feet….”

“It is not by sinking below oneself that one removes fatigue. One must climb the ladder and there one has true rest, because one has the inner peace, the light, the universal energy. And little by little one puts oneself in touch with the truth which is the very reason of one’s existence.”

“If you contact that definitively, it removes completely all fatigue.”
