Summary: Now is the time to overcome your fear of failure. You must do everything in your power to overcome this fear. The world deserves to experience the impact of your success. Changing your thoughts from failure to success and encouraging yourself to put these steps in place will help you overcome your fear. “What a man thinks in his heart, so it is with him”. I look forward to sharing with you additional keys on overcoming fear.
Fear of failure will stop you right in your tracks. If you desire to pursue your destiny, you must master your fear. Fear paralyzes you and leaves you helpless, inactive and powerless to pursue what is needed to succeed. Fear steals your potential and stifles you so you will never soar to your full potential.
God has given me several articles that I believe will help in overcoming fear. In this article I will share four more keys on how to overcome fear.
Key 1 - Tough Skin – Nehemiah 2:18-20
Anytime you strive to achieve an enormous plan, you can count on some people being critical and non-supportive of your efforts. Staying strong means ignoring most of the comments so you can keep on track. This is not always easy, but learn to listen without taking to heart, will keep your mind on what God has planned for you and not what others think about you. Many times, criticism reflects that persons unresolved fears and limitations. Your movement towards success may challenge them to think about their lack of success. Don’t spend a lot of time trying to figure that out, God will help you discern what you need to listen to. Build your dream as much as you can to achieve success.
Key 2 - Power Group - Proverbs 15:22
Everyone has needed or will need assistance with their plan. No one has become successful doing it alone. There is wisdom that can only come from a team of people whom you trust and that support your efforts. Choose the power group carefully. The following list below is core areas that you should look for while picking people for your power group.
- People you trust – This group will be your sounding board. They will assist you in the structure of your plan and give you honest feedback. When you are challenged with fear, these individuals will encourage you.
- Hear God’s voice - God’s wisdom is always more valuable than man’s.
- Expertise – Picking people who have working knowledge in areas, such as, marketing, program development is always a benefit.
When discussing your plan with each power group member, it is important that you have a thorough outline of your entire plan. Also make sure you are prepared to discuss how you see each person’s involvement in this power group and how much time you are require from them. Knowing up front what is required of them, will allow that person to make an honest decision to support you because they have all the information before them.
There are several ways in which you can organize the power group. You can organize a group that you meet with only when needed. You can form a more structured group that you will meet regularly to review your plans and strategies. Just remember this group is being structured to assist you in making your dream a success. They will keep you accountable and gives you advice along the way.
Key 3 - Mentor – Proverbs 11:14
Seek a Mentor as you pursue your dreams. While picking a mentor, look for someone who loves you, supports your efforts and knows you well. This person should be able to speak about all areas of your life – personally and professionally. A good mentor should be someone who has achieved what you’re working on. For example, if your plan is to operate a chain of businesses, it’s helpful to have a mentor who has achieved success in something similar. If your plan is to operate a successful mega church, having a pastor who has achieved that status is preferable. Always look for mentors you can learn from because they have attained the success that you desire and are willing to show you how you can achieve the same.
Key 4 - Clear Strategy – Habakkuk 2:2-3
Plans, dreams or your God-given destiny will never become real if you do not have a clear business strategy on how to accomplish it. A strategic plan allows you to develop a clear road map on how to accomplish it. A good strategic plan includes the following:
- Start Dates
- Research
- Staff recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation
- Location or Building
- Program/Project structure with start and complete dates and clear outcomes
- Finances
- Marketing
- Legal issues
It is important not to become overwhelmed by trying to do everything at once. Small yet consistent steps towards accomplishing your goals will help you achieve success. Your power group and your mentor will have an important role in assisting and periodically reviewing your strategic plan to help keep your timetable on track.
