It is a myth that Paleo Recipes are unpalatable or limited to only a few recipes. With any meal enjoy Paleo friendly breads gluten, dairy, lactose and soy free. Bread is an historical food from ancient to current times. During the Egyptian Age of Pharaohs hieroglyphs depicts grain harvests and bread distribution. During the Roman Empire bakers nor their children could leave the Bakers Guild. Members of the Baker’s Guild held social prestige. This noted the importance of the baker. In medieval England during famine prices were regulated to keep bread affordable for the average citizen. In the 1880's technology made white bread affordable to the public. Archeologist suggests that primal bread making began approximately 8,000 years ago. This would have been in the Neolithic Period.
Two events happened during the Neolithic Period making primal bread making possible. The first event is primal cooking. During this period a cruel form of cooking was invented. Wheat was not eaten in the Paleolithic Era. Raw wheat has toxins that sickened Cavemen when eaten raw. Previous foods not eaten in the Paleolithic period cooked killed most of the toxins making these foods edible. One main food was wheat. The second event was domestication of animals. Therefore, cows and goats provided milk ushering in bread baking.
Conforming to Paleo Diet bread baked with gluten free flax seed flour. Dairy free baked with almond or coconut milk. Plant based almond and coconut milks contain calcium. No animal fats ingredients plant oils olive oil/coconut oil. Butter bread with tasty nutritious almond butter. May have to add or decrease amounts of almond/coconut milk for consistence desired.
Flax Seed Bread Recipe
Flax seed: Flax seed flour/meal ground from flax seeds. Nutty taste flour. Nutritious flour rich in Omega 3, Omega 6 fatty acids, protein, potassium and folic acid Whole seeds are so small may not be digested but grounded flax seeds give the body the full nutritional benefits. Polyunsaturated fats (good fats) help reduce blood cholesterol and reduce risk of heart diseases. Also a fibrous plant good for body intestine digestion. Store in refrigerator in opaque air-tight container. Olive or coconut oil used no animal fats.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup flax meal
- 1/3 cup almond meal
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Pepper to taste
- Salt to taste
- Approximately 3 tsp olive oil or coconut oil
- 2 eggs
- Optional can add crushed thyme, sage, oregano, rosemary or cinnamon to taste
- Water, almond milk or coconut milk to make the batter pourable (batter consistency)
Preparation:
- In mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients. In another bowl, beat eggs together. Mix all ingredients and pour batter into regular loaf pan. Oil pan.
- 350 degrees for approximately 30 to 40 minutes until baked thru-out.
