Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS, is the most common female hormonal disorder and can result in unwanted hair growth. PCOS can affect up to 10% of women, and is most common in females of reproductive age, but also occurs in younger girls and women well past menopause.

The main features of PCOS can include:
Skin and hair problems
• Oily skin and acne
• Increased facial and body hair
• Thinning scalp hair
• Darkened, velvety skin on the neck, underarms, inner thighs, under breastsr
Menstrual cycle changes
• Irregular or none
• Infertility, due to hormonal changes within the ovaryr
Difficulty controlling weight
• Extra weight tends to be on torso, with legs remaining slim
• “Standard” diets usually ineffectiver
Metabolism changes
• Principally insulin resistance and unfavourable cholesterol changes
• Elevated blood pressure is common
• All are risk factors for later heart diseaser
If you suspect that you have PCOS symptoms, it is very important that you consult a health professional. In this regard, you can get more information from the PCOS Association.
These features of PCOS – particularly the extra hair growth as this is difficult to hide – can cause an indirect emotional stress from having to deal with the physical and metabolic changes, and the possible insecurity about their femininity. Unfortunately the hair growth is permanent; it will not disappear even if you are able to reverse other PCOS symptoms.
At Champion Laser, we encounter many women who suffer from PCOS, and have helped them by reducing or eliminating the unwanted hair through laser hair removal and/or electrolysis.
Please note that we require that each client meet with us for a laser hair removal consultation and test patch before beginning treatment. At that time we’ll be able to advise the best method and schedule to effectively deal with your concerns. There is no charge for this consultation and no obligation. It takes 5 days to get test results back, so please book early for free consultation and we will do your patch test at that time.
To book for free consultation, call 403 210.4801 or visit us at our office
