"It is the journey that brings us happiness, not the destination." - Dan Millman - Peaceful Warrior

Do you ever feel as if your mind were about to burst from overwhelm?

Do you ever feel that nothing is going right no matter what you do?

Do you feel immobilized when you are seeking answers and none seem to be appearing?

Do you zone out watching television, eat when you aren't hungry, or whatever takes you away from dealing with the challenges inherent with transformation?

It is not uncommon for people to get so tangled up in the quagmire of struggle when going through change that they forget to give themselves a mind-rest. Yes, a mind-rest to let go of the worries and everyday routines that occupy a great deal of time.

Doing more of the same unproductive strategies or forcing yourself to plow through with uninspired actions causes more harm than good. Even when good things are happening all at once, it can be stressful in keeping up with the pace in unfamiliar territory.

When you feel yourself going in circles or stressed beyond your limits, give yourself a mind-rest doing something creative and restful. The creative act could be something as simple as visiting a museum, window shopping, or taking a walk. Do something that does not relate to what you are striving to find an answer for. By doing something out of the norm you engage your right brain where your imagination resides, giving your left brain a rest!

Make a mind-rest date. Your mind-rest date is exempt from normal daily activities. Take a time out away from your left-brain routines to a place that would stimulate your imagination as well as give you a well deserved mind-rest. Give your problem solving mind a rest to access your inventive, intuitive, and imaginative powers. Perhaps it is going a museum that you keep saying to yourself you would like to visit, but keep putting it off. Maybe it is reading a non-fiction book, or picking up an unfinished creative project, or taking pictures out in nature.

We miss the boat when we don't permit ourselves creative time that allows our imagination the space to do its part in giving us new perspectives. Pushing and prodding to find answers only causes more delay. Not only that, but when we keep applying stress to find a solution, we generally get recycled data that is similar to a broke
CD stuck in the same grove. We need to use a source we carry with us everywhere 24/7 - the right side of our brain!

There are two hemispheres to the brain - a right side where our imagination is ready to create and the left side of the brain to take what we create and make it real. Unfortunately the majority of people get stuck in the left-brain of the doing and neglecting the wonderful, creative right side of the brain. Of course, the opposite is true where someone may be very creative and neglect the logic side of their brain. For purpose of this writing, I am focusing on those who allow the left hemisphere of their brain rule.

When you give yourself a mind-rest you let go of attachments you have in finding solutions, making room for your imagination and intuition to give you new possibilities with ah-ha moments. Whether you are stressed out or not while going through a career change or seeking to play a bigger leadership game, give yourself a mind-rest doing something creative and you will be amazed at what possibilities you will come up with and what you will attract.nn~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One summer while I was on vacation from college I became a tin man: selling aluminum siding and roofing door to door in the Boston area. The business has a bad reputation but our siding and our roofs were the finest available. Our prices were high but fair. In spite of what consumers always want to believe, you can’t get the best without paying for it.
