More and more business are realising the true value of project management. What was once an “extra job” for someone is now the domain of specialist Project Managers. This has caused an explosion in the number of Project Managers all fighting for new and exciting jobs. To rise above the pack, you need to be aggressive and you need to get recruiters excited. This means your resume needs to do the talking for you. Keeping this in mind, the first goal for your project manager resume is to catch the recruiter’s attention as quickly as possible. Here are a few things I’ve done in my project managers resume to get recruiters excited. Use catchy one liners I use big one liners on the first page of my resume designed to hook the recruiter in and compel them to read on. Here are some examples: - Fully qualified Project manager with current PMP and Prince2 certifications - Successfully managed $100M project budgets - Managed global projects across Asia and America - Balanced time, budget, scope and quality to deliver successful project results Big Numbers Whether it’s the size of the project budget or the number of resources, big numbers make our resumes stand out. Don't be afraid to pump yourself up a bit. Don't be afraid to quote big numbers. For example: - Managed 30 staff on a global project - Managed $100 project budget - Saved CompanyX $3M in operating expenses through superior project delivery Use a template A current template provides you with the following benefits: -Helps you to apply for jobs faster because most of the work is already done, you just need to populate itrn-Ensures you’re submitting a format that’s current -Offers a sanity check on your skills. If you have a current example of a resume you see how yours stacks up against it. - Enables you to spend the majority of you time writing up your skills and catchy one liners instead of fighting with document formatting in Word. Doing these things right will ensure that the project managers resume you submit is your best.
