Thebacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are the primary cause of the bacterial infection, Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Healthy people sometimes also get this infection without having any symptoms.
The bacteria generally cause minor problems, but may cause several complications if the infection caused by the bacteria is not treated well. Swimmer’s ear and hot tub rash are the problems caused by the bacteria. In already weak person, the bacteria may cause death even.
The infection is generally difficult to treat by modern treatment, because the antibiotics that are used to kill the bacteria can be resisted by the bacteria.
Symptoms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection:
The symptoms of this bacterial infection depend on the site where it occurs. Some of the common ones are listed below:
- Like if the infection occurs in a wound, then green colored pus may appear in that area.
- If it occurs in the ear, known as swimmer’s ear, then earache is the primary symptom.
- A person may suffer from cough, if pneumonia occurs due to this infection.
- A person may feel tired or he may suffer from fever if infection occurs.
- A more serious bacterial infection may cause high fever, chillsandshock even.
Who can get Pseudomonas aeruginosainfection?
- People in the hospital are at higher risk of getting this infection.The bacteria may spread through cleaning solution, medical and other laboratory equipment in the hospital.
- Thebacterial infection may also be spread through contaminated food.
- Already weak patients, if get this bacterial infection, then it may cause very serious infection.The bacteria are in fact, a main cause of pneumonia also.
- A person with puncture wounds or with some burn injuries may also at higher risk of developing the infection.
- The bacteria are usually found in moist environments such as in swimming pools or hot tubs. They may cause the problem of swimmer’s ear as already discussed.
- The bacteria may cause infection in the eyes as well via the contact lenses if get into their contact lens solution. The infection may also occur if you are not keeping your lens clean.
Treatment option for Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection:
The disorder can be treated with the modern medicines. Antibiotics are there to kill the bacteria. But the right antibiotics are hard to find as the bacteria is usually resistant to most of them.
Sometimes surgery is even required to remove the already infected tissue.
