Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Infections - Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

A pseudomonas infection as the name suggests is caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas Aeruginosa which is present in a healthy body most of the time. This bacteria may lead to minor disorders like swimmer's ear or a hot tub rash (due to inadequate chlorinated water in swimming pools and hot tubs ) but in severe cases the infection can be very deadly as the bacteria is resistant to many antibiotics.

Pseudomonas infection generally occurs in a health care setting due to contaminated medical equipment , IV needles or catheters compared to other environments (due to contaminated water or food ) . The bacteria can also cause eye infections in people using contact lenses.

The infection can involve any part of the body like respiratory tract, blood, heart, ear, eyes, bones and joints, urinary tract, skin, GI tract and even brain. It can also occur on the surgical wound infections.

Pseudomonas is the main cause of pneumonia in patients who are on breathing machines in hospitals.

Symptoms of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Infections:

Symptoms are associated with the type of infection and what body part is being effected.

The most common symptoms are fever, chills, cough with mucus, body aches, nausea , vomiting, light headedness, rapid heartbeat and breathing , diarrhea and decrease in urination and even painful urination which can have unpleasant odor or may be cloudy /bloody urine. Symptoms of confusion and shock can be seen in some cases.

If the wound area is infected, then there could be inflamed wound site , and fluid leaking out from the wound. There may be green or blue pus around the wound. The bacteria often affects the hair follicles on the skin and makes its red,

The infection in ears usually with swimmer's ear can show symptoms of ear pain, hearing loss and even dizziness and imbalance. There could be itching inside the ear or some discharge from the ears and even swelling.

In case of infected eyes, there could be inflammation of eyes , pus and pain and even swelling /redness of eyes can be seen. In some cases there is impaired vision.

Diagnoses of Pseudomonas infection :

A complete physical examination is done along with medical history is taken for the patient.

Blood count and blood cultures are performed to diagnose the problem . Urinalysis is done to rule out Urinary tract infection. Culture of sputum and respiratory secretions are done to check the pneumonia . Wound and burn cultures are performed in case of wound and burns. Swabbing the infection and in some cases doing biopsy helps in diagnosing the infection.
