Psst…Who’s Really Sabotaging Your Success?

Success is such a subjective state of mind. When you close your eyes and image the taste and feel of success, what shape does it take? Is it having a sold out seminar or landing a high-profile speaking gig that puts a smile on your face? How about signing on a big-box retailer as a new distributor of your product?

No matter how you envision your success, if you are working around the clock and still not seeing the fruits of your labor it’s most likely due to sabotage. But, who would do such a thing?

YOU!

You are sabotaging your success. Ooo…I said it!

Now why would I say such a thing? Who would sabotage their own success and how?

The fashionable buzzword of the 90’s and early 2000’s was “perfectionism”. It was so chic to be a perfectionist. Everyone one was a self-proclaimed perfectionist in job interviews across America. As if the declaration implied latent super powers.

The truth is that perfectionism does not equal progress. And you need progress in order to claim profits.

I am not perfect, however, I am efficient and effective.

In the kitchen, I can’t cook like a professional chef, but my family loves what I whip up nonetheless. “Yummy” is a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot and I LIKE it.

I love being able to feed my family food that makes my daughter hum…even if it’s not perfect.

We sing loudly in the shower, even if we’re not good.

We dance uninhibited while cleaning, even if we’re off beat.

We provide the best support that we can to a friend going through a tough time, even if we have no idea what we are doing.

Basically, what I’m saying is you don’t have to be perfect to be effective. You don’t have to be perfect in order to act. I encourage you to improv along the way. Don’t be afraid to grow and learn and get better…it will keep you on top of your game.

Success…like many other things in life, is more about the journey — not the destination. Try to enjoy the sights along the way.

Today’s Action Steps:

1. Identify ways you can focus your attention on being profitable rather than perfect. Write them down. You can always make things better over a period of time, but realize you don’t have to have all the ABC’s in place before getting started.
2. Take the first step! Whether it be publishing your sales page or implementing your newsletter campaign…just make it happen!
