For those of you unfamiliar with the movie "Love and Other Drugs," it is essentially a romantic-comedy that follows the love interest of a pharmaceutical sales rep (boy) and an adventurous, charitable artist (girl) who also happens to have Parkinson's disease at the age of 28. After their fling turns serious and as he begins to become more successful as a sales rep, he is is forced to face the fact that her disease is uncurable and will continue to get worse if he chooses to stay with her.
Ultimately, she relieves him of the guilt of leaving and lets him off the hook by pushing him away. He reluctantly "gives in" without putting up too much of a fight only to learn later that his personal achievements lack meaning without the company of his loved one. Finally, he pours his heart out to her by telling her that he NEEDS her in his life for better or for worse.
Although, this is merely a fictional story, what made it enjoyable is that it captures a certain Truth to life that we all go through. No matter how beautiful, rich, famous, successful or privileged a person may be, their life is still far from perfect. The fact of the matter is that this world isn't meant to be perfect for anyone. Spiritually speaking, any phenomena of this relative world cannot be perfect. However, it behooves us to realize that our souls, being made in the image of Spirit, are the True Noumena of perfection. We are merely spiritual beings having a human experience. It is only our attachment to worldly desires and sensuous pleasures that restrict us from experiencing the perfect nature of our very own Essence!
So as you go through your day and you find yourself becoming frustrated with things that may not be going the way you desire, try to remind yourself that this world wasn't meant to be perfect. Go within, find your peace, smile and release your attachment to a specific outcome and know that each and every experience is an opportunity to find the Truth of ourselves. We can continue to try to find fulfillment in temporary objects of duality or we can determine to go to the Source of all creation and reclaim our divine birthrights as perfectly endowed souls of bliss!
"Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21
