GIVING
“A man there was, and they called him mad, the more he gave, the more he had.”
Remember the old saying, “As you sow so shall you reap”? If you do then the following paragraphs will help to clarify the meaning and allow you to use it to maximum effect. If you don’t, then read on because the following will change the way you think and your future.
The number one thing to remember is that you should give without expecting a return on your investment or any immediate reward (whether that is money, time or services). You should do it because your heart tells you to do it and that it will make you feel good. The key to this is to remember that it is how you feel inside as you give of yourself, your time or your money that is the most important factor.
Intention and motivation are everything – you must give for the right reasons. Giving because you expect to gain something in return creates a negative energy. This is similar to saying, “I don’t have enough and I need more” and the energy vibration that this establishes is one of lack and it will only create more lack.
If you give because someone asks you to, you are again reinforcing this “need” mentality. Often in these circumstances, you will begin to associate money with bad feelings and therefore you tend to set up either mental or physical blocks that will hinder its return to you. Your subconscious will recognise the negative feelings that you store, and will do its best to create situations whereby you don’t attract anymore to you.
The one great thing about giving is that it helps everyone and hurts no one, and like many other people, I have found that giving first works best. So, if you want to receive you must first give. I have heard the term “Loverage” used to describe this situation. Loverage is the fact that people will help you because you have helped them.
It is a widely held belief that you cannot out give the universe – and universal principles always hold true. When you realise that all our material possessions are not really ours and that we are just custodians of them for some higher force, it makes it easier to give them away. The aforementioned force recognises generosity and rewards it greatly.
If you wish to approach this from a purely business angle, then it is worth noting that all things being equal people will do business with people they know, trust and like. Claude Hopkins stated that “That the best way to sell anything is to give a free sample.” In this scenario giving is really hidden selling and that if you give something away for free, you encounter no sales resistance. Also, your recipient becomes programmed to look for each and everyway possible to give something of equal or greater value back to you. Over a period of time, these people will not only think the best about you, but they will want to actively help you in your endeavours and return your gift to them by giving you more.
If you don’t believe me just remember any time when you have had to exchange gifts with someone. How did you feel after the exchange when you realised that their gift to you was far better than the one you gave them. Do you recall how bad you felt at the time and how you promised next time to outdo them. This is a common thread throughout humanity – the moment someone does something for you, you feel the urge to reciprocate. In fact, you NEED to do this. And as soon as you can! By doing this you relieve yourself of the stress of having to reciprocate and you no longer feel obligated to the person involved.
There are two final points to make before I conclude this segment, and they are:
1. You must be able to let go of any old money grudges that you still hold against anyone that owes you money.
You must be able to forget (and possibly forgive) those people that still have money of yours. If things have been tough financially for them you are only going to bring yet more stress to their problematic lives. If they have not repaid you on purpose then they will get their just desserts in the end – after all what goes around comes around.
If you are able to let go of the attachment that you have to this outstanding debt then you will be stepping back into the spiritual flow of life, and once more you make yourself open to receiving and you will find things coming your way. Remember that money doesn’t come to you from people or sources, but through them.
2. If you refuse gifts, compliments or money for that matter you are closing the door on the flow that is trying to bring these things to you, and it will stop. Make sure that you can remain open to both the giving and receiving and you will find that the world improves greatly for you.
If none of the above has convinced you on the merits of giving, I will leave you with one last thought. Dr. Karl A. Meninger has stated that generous people are rarely mentally ill people.
Now, if that doesn’t do it, nothing will!

In my last article I mentioned the effects of walking. In this article I want to take that a little further and also cover some other things you can try to keep your heart in perfect condition. If you only need to fit in four 10 minute walks a day to show an improvement in heart function this makes exercising so much easier. For example you can… Use stairs instead of lifts or escalators. When you’re at home you can climb the stairs whilst waiting for your television programme to start.
