Designing a lighting plan for your home is almost an art. With different fixtures (or luminaries) and lamps and bulbs of different shapes, styles and designs available and the degrees of light which you can adjust, your home is almost an object of art. However, it should not be all about art, but should be an abode of functionality and comfort, of safety and security. For this, your fixtures should meet your lighting goals. What fixtures or luminaries would serve your home the best? There are many luminaries you can choose from, some of which will look good in particular rooms or areas of your home like porch, the stairways, your kitchen, living room and bathroom. Such rooms or areas will require considerable degree of light to suit the atmosphere and mood. Your choice of fixtures should meet your lighting goals. What are they kinds of fixtures that would look good in your home and would serve your purposes? Here are some of the most common types: • Chandeliers – Chandeliers are usually found in mansions, but ordinary homeowners can also install them. They look elegant and sparklingly beautiful in dining rooms and living rooms. You can also install small chandeliers in your bedroom and bathroom. • Lighting pendants – This hanging fixture can be used in your kitchen, living room and dining room if you want to add style and illuminate a certain space at the same time. Less extravagant than chandeliers, a pendant light looks spectacular over dining tables, billiard tables, kitchen islands and elsewhere you have need for focused illumination. The pendants can come in different materials like glass and plastic. • Foyer/hall fixtures – Having lights at your hallway, stairways and elsewhere you greet guests is a great way to make people feel welcomed under your roof. Other than that, you also need adequate light to provide safe passage into other areas of your home. This is best achieved by fitting hung from the ceiling. • Recessed lights – A recessed light or downlight is most often mounted in the ceiling rather than mounted on the surface of the ceiling. They are installed into a round circular opening to give off light aimed in downward direction. This is another great option for focused lighting. • Track lighting – If you would like your light to shine directly on a specific area or object in your home, you should consider track lights. You can aim each of its light according to your desired direction. You can install them on your ceiling or wall. • Ceiling fixtures – General ceiling lighting fixtures provide light in all rooms and areas of your home. Ceiling fittings include chandeliers, pendant lights and recessed downlights. • Wall fixtures – Wall lights come in many flexible designs. Not only they add to your home’s aesthetic appeal, but they also provide for special lighting purposes. • Portable lamps – Portable lamps provide you light whenever and wherever you need it, provided you have a power source/outlet nearby. A portable lamp looks great beside your bed. These examples of lighting fixtures will serve different purposes in home lighting. To make the most out of your desired fixture, you should know what your lighting goals are. For example, if you want adequate light to highlight a painting or sculpture, a track or wall light will do. Make sure you discuss with an Electrician Melbou e about lighting.
