Have you ever been around those types of people that talk about others? You know, the kind that only seem to talk about what someone else is doing, where they're living, what their profession is or how much money they're making? It could even be something as insignificant as talking about where someone else goes to eat or what they eat. My question is, why does it matter? Why would you care so much? Now, before you answer, consider this. What that person is doing with their life, does it directly impact you? Let's say it's just someone you know, an acquaintance possibly. You don't really spend time with them, you just seem to know quite a bit about them. Does focusing on their life bring any progress to yours? No. Not even close. I see this constantly, from family, friends, co-workers, Facebook and everywhere else. I have even done it in the past and slip up sometimes. This includes things like comparing myself to someone else's life and what they're doing. Sometimes I start to wonder if I should follow that same path, too. But none of that really ends up helping me after the fact. But when it does happen, I realize that I'm not helping myself. So, I steer myself back on track. All of this, to me, raises a question. Why is it so important to focus on what someone else is doing? Why do we do it?

An "Escape Route"

Okay, I understand, maybe you're having trouble managing your own life or dealing with certain things. We all have troubles, but we do the best we can to progress, especially with our best intentions at heart. Some people focus on others as a form of "escape". It will only get you out of the moment for now. But when the time rolls around again that you're having trouble, the cycle starts all over again. If you're having trouble, why not find ways to help yourself? That's being proactive with the situation and empowering yourself. That's something that I refer to as, "true power". The power to change and the power to take control of who you are. The main point of all of this is to focus on yourself and what you're doing with your life. It may seem difficult at times and you may never want to face the individual inside of you. But the longer it continues on, unresolved, the worse it will be for you and the more detrimental it can be overall.

The Side Effects of Focusing on Others

When people focus on others, they are actively breaking themselves down. They're not carving a path for themselves or investing in who they are, but rather, lost in a sea of confusion. This can lead to more confusion when trying to figure out what path to take. It's why we must come back to our "core" selves and look at what we want in life, what's important to us and how to reach that point. This can help give us better direction. I know, I have been there many times. Lost in a sea of uncertainty and trying to find my way back, only to look at others and become even more lost as opposed to looking at myself and finding direction. Take yourself into consideration, don't worry about what someone else is doing. Don't make it your responsibility to worry about their life or what they're doing. You're hurting yourself in the long run by not investing in yourself. This type of behavior is destructive. Not constructive.

Your Focus and Energy are Limited Resources

Your focus is comprised of your mind and energy. Some would say your heart and gut as well, by following the interests of your heart and using gut instinct. Although, you only have so much energy each day, use this energy wisely because our focus and energy wear us down. Haven't you ever felt worn down by focusing on many things? It is a physical and psychological investment that involves giving energy and focus to aspects of life. Our body, in its entirety, uses energy for everything we do. Each day that passes is another amount of time that's used in your life. Your life, my life and everyone's life is comprised of TIME. This is one of the main reasons why you should not waste time. If you're wasting time, you're wasting your life. Don't do that to yourself or others. We don't live forever, even if we think we do. Granted, our souls live on. But that's for another time. You cannot switch lives or bodies. You are you and always will be you. Focus on what's important to you and what you want. Do things that matter to you. Focusing on yourself isn't bad if you're doing it in a constructive manner. What sparked some aspects of this post in relation to wasting time, was when I came across a post on Danger and Play about not wasting your 20's. There was an individual who commented on there, and by the end of the comment, I took away this: do not waste any time. Do what feels best at the time and with what's aligned in you. If you make the decision with what feels best at the time, how is that wrong? Sometimes, you may even find yourself thinking, "Well I don't want to do that because it is a waste of time". Okay, if it's not in-line with you, don't do it. But don't think of everything like that. Doing that ONE thing in your life can have a chain reaction on a massive scale and lead you to so many things. There are many possibilities. Life is one large experience with many experiences within it. We learn and grow from each experience and have knowledge for the future and knowledge to share with others through our own experiences. Ultimately, whatever you're doing, make sure it's constructive and aligned with what you want.

What's Happening With Me Now?

I'm trying to focus on the married life now. Being a husband now, involves new aspects of life and some have impacted my perspective. I'm currently working to build my skills and pushing for progress with Establish Vitality. To take my life to the next level, because my progress thus far is not as it should be, at least in my eyes. I'm also writing another book about back exercises. One to push the limits and give great results, helping you feel so much better and improving your back health significantly. I'm also working on learning the technical aspects of my industry so I can apply that to my current line of work. I need to have more to offer and be a more valuable individual, so I'm working on learning some computer languages. Why am I mentioning what I'm doing? To let you know that I'm human and I have experienced this too. Aspects of my life need my focus in order to grow, so I'm willing to open up and share that with you. I also can't tell you what to do exactly, I can only provide some guidance. But I certainly hope that sharing my experiences helps spur your own actions and interests and leads you to live a better and more focused life.
