Have you ever asked yourself why the simple things in life seem so hard to learn sometimes? Why things that should be so easy, just seem to be so damn hard? What’s funny about it, is the answer to the next question. Who makes it so hard...guess who?

But you can change that by making the simple things in life the most enjoyable and rewarding. In learning to constantly strive in life, to compete, to win, we’ve lost the value and beauty of the simple things; the sound of the wind, the smile of a new born baby or the song of a bird.

I’ve learned that how you approach your thoughts and decisions in life, has a lot to do with the outcome. It’s wise to be grateful for the simplest pleasures that life has to offer and not take for granted the love of a spouse or friend.

Because life can be so unpredictable at times and we truly have control over so little, we should also learn to curb our expectation of events and circumstances. This helps to avoid disappointment and further setbacks.

The key to success and happiness, is what we do about what happens to us, when life seems to blind side us. If you paint a grim picture in your mind, you’re more likely to realize a dark result. Use your past as a positive stepping stone, rather than an obstacle. Remember an event or challenge that’s occurred in your past, which you handled with hope and courage.

It’s difficult to end up with dark results, when you’re living in a world of faith and optimism. Visualize and expect that life will present what you need when you need it, will go a long way in being patient while you’re waiting.

Although it’s true that we really can’t control life, we do have a say about how we respond to it. Our approach to each day, each challenge, plays a major role in what transpires going forward. In other words, we create our own “second chances” or we do not. We are our own best friend or our own worst enemy.

It all points back to one basic concept, our self-image. How much do we really like ourselves. When we look in the mirror are we just okay with who we see or are we crazy in love with who we are? Do you treat yourself like you treat someone you love, a child, a dear friend? If you don’t, you should.

It starts with this simple truth, you can’t give to someone else, what you can’t give to yourself. Your self-image is not caste in stone, it is not a fixed entity unless you say it is and believe it is. With the proper coaching and discipline, anyone, I mean anyone, can change their life and live the life they choose.

You have the power, you make the decision

I was watching my six and nine year old daughters playing the other morning when suddenly there was a barrage of I Hate You and I Don't Like You Anymore statements flying about the room. Of course, it was just a moment of disagreement in child play, but the thoughts and feelings were real enough to them at that moment.
