There I was—hair fixed, make-up on, purse hanging on my shoulder. I stepped around my suitcase toward the front door to listen for my friend’s car, hoping I’d hear her pull up in the driveway. We were heading for a yearly writers event.
I waited 10 minutes, 20 minutes, half an hour. No car. No friend.
Being the unprepared gal that I am, I didn’t have her number to reach her.
Finally, my hubby, in his sweet nature, said, “Don’t worry, I’ll drive you there.”
I reached for my phone. “I just thought of another friend to call…just in case,”
“What?” I said, “The event begins tomorrow? Not today?
Yes, friends, what a goof I am…got the wrong date!
We can miss dates. We can be confused about events or even miss them all together. But that day, that glorious day when Jesus comes back will not be missed by any creature on earth.
And for those of us who live Jesus-centered lives, there is no fear as we expect that day to come. We count on God’s prophesies that have been fulfilled with 100% accuracy.
The expectation is delightful. It’s filled with anticipation. And it overflows with hope if we ponder not in the darkness of today, but on the dazzling nature of that day.
As my friend says, “Are we prayed up, packed up and ready to be picked up?” If not, here are seven ways to keep us busy as we prepare for Jesus to come back.
1. We don’t know when, we just know why: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mark 13:32).
2. Even when you can’t find anyone trustworthy, “Trust in the LORD and do good…” (Psalm 37:3).
3. Count on the abundance of His riches. “The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty” (Psalm 3718-19).
4. Have desires to be met? “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).
5. No one recognizes your worth? “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:5-6).
6. When others soar to success and leave you behind, “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes” (Psalm 37:7).
7. Make peace your friend and “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil” (Psalm 37:8).
Father, thank you for the expectation we have that when Jesus does come back again, He’ll find us with peace in our hearts, reassurance in our souls, and a secure foundation for our steps. Thank you that the end times will usher that day of best times for those who call you their Savior. In Jesus name, amen.
• How does the truth that Jesus will come again affect your life?
• How many of God’s prophesies are you aware of?
• Are you prepared for His coming?
