Shocked...I Lost Weight On Vacation!!!

I admire your tenacity to stay focused on eating healthy and getting that life robbing fat off your precious body. It takes dedication and love to lose weight. Yes, love, you have to love yourself enough to put yourself and your body first in your life. As women, we are nurturers and we want to make sure everyone else is taken care of first. That is the beginning of our lack of energy, emotional peace and vibrancy.

We have to train our bodies, feed our bodies with life giving food and schedule sacred pampering time into our week. If we don’t we die inside spiritually and physically.

What perfect timing for this question. I just returned from an excursion for a private event and I was shocked to find out I lost two pounds while I was traveling. Now that might not seem like a lot, but as you have experienced before, you and most people gain weight on vacation or while traveling.

SO to lose weight was shocking to me. And the crazy thing is I felt like all I did was eat. I had unlimited access to delicious gourmet food. Anything you could think of was available to me everywhere I went. I was staying at an exclusive yacht marina that was absolutely beautiful. There is something about a large body of water that makes me feel rich and hungry.

Alana, Here is some insight to my thinking and an inside look to what I did to not gain weight but actually lose two pounds on this trip.

Right when I got there, I set my mind to stay hydrated and took mints and a couple of other hard candies out of my suitcase and put them in my purse. My biggest downfall is sweets so I eat 2 peppermints to take an edge of my sweet tooth and they make me feel like I had a treat. That’s a psychological trick I use to tell myself I am done eating for a while.

I have been excited about eating fat burning foods before, but now I am even more excited. This is getting so easy and so effective it’s almost effortless. I don’t think about counting calories or depriving myself of anything. I just plan, be conscious with my eating and I keep my goals, dreams and visions in the forefront of my mind. I have decided that I will not eat mindlessly and disrespect my body by gorging on toxic fat building food.

Here is my process for NOT gaining weight on vacation or any time for that matter.

Start with a strong foundation. Stay away from Bad Carbs. They are high in calories and make you sluggish. They make you gain fat so fast you feel thicker after one meal of them.

Excess consumption of 'bad fat building carbs' impair your body's ability to process fat so you are more likely to gain excess body fat from eating them. These Carbs have what is called a high Glycemic Index create an 'insulin resistance' syndrome, whereby insulin can no longer process fat or sugar.

Avoid bad fats: 'Bad fats' such as saturated and trans fat contribute to an increase in the likelihood of gaining dimply fat as well as creating cardiovascular disease.

Cutting out, eliminating and then avoiding these bad fats and bad carbs will help your body both lose weight and become less prone to heart disease. So you become healthier and thinner!

Eat only Carbs that are high in fiber, and that are digested slowly with a low glycemic index. For example, brown rice is allowed but white rice is definitely not.

Sample Vacation Diet

Pre breakfast:
Morning Energy Herbal tea
Vitamins

Breakfast:
Egg white omelet with mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, olives and red onions with light low fat mozzarella cheese on top with I slice of rye toast
3 cups of Decaf Coffee with Sweetener

Snack:
Good carb fruit
Low fat cottage cheese
Herbal tea
Bottled water while I hang out and sight see (with toilets nearby)

Lunch
Leisurely sitting and eating without stress or plans
Gigantic Caesar Salad with Dressing on the side toped with grilled chicken and Parmesan cheese
1 whole grain roll
Large bottomless glass of ice tea with Splendan2 large glasses of water no ice lots of lemon (digestion)

Snack
Large Sugar Free Fat Free Frozen Yogurt with fresh raspberries (2 packages of sweetener for my sweet tooth

Dinner
Grilled Halibut or Salmo

Large organic Salad with Balsamic Vinega
1 whole grain roll
Water
Decaf coffee

Special order dessert- Fresh seasonal berry parfait made with fresh berries, Splenda and topped with fat free sugar free frozen yogurt

After dinner
I consumed more bottled water.

Alana, as you can see, I did not starve, count calories or feel deprived one second. I did not eat at greasy places or just mindlessly eat something because I was in a beautiful vacation spot. I mentally treated myself like royalty and not like a cheap date. I took long soothing bubble baths, I would rather see two spectacular places and enjoy the people and culture of the spot than rush around eating on the run trying to see every thing and end up exhausted, sun burned and fat.

I went to an amazing art fair and milled around and spoke to several artists. It was so inspiring and fulfilling. Outside the area where I stayed there were tour busses packed with people rushing to and fro with bad carb white bread hot dogs and huge donuts in their hands. It was simply amazing to be in a foreign country, watching people who spent thousands of dollars to go to someplace unique...eat and do the same thing they do at home! Boy, we are really creatures of habit.

You can continue with your weight loss success if you decide before you get there that you are going to enjoy yourself and not stuff yourself. Make a list of the 2 great places you want to visit and others if you have time. Decide what type of experience you want to have verses all the food you want to consume.

The food will stay with you as fat that you will have to spend weeks to get rid of. The experience will stay with you as rich nostalgia and will feed your mind and spirit for years to come. It’s a matter of reprogramming your mind to become a more enlightened person, which will allow you to live a more enriched life.

Continue to put your body first and stay fit, healthy and happy. Have the time of your life on vacation. Make sure you buy the tiniest, coolest bikini you can wear.

Take your time and enjoy every moment and make sure you take some going out mini dresses and go dancing all night. It will be a great cardio workout and the sweat will keep your skin glowing in the moonlight.
