Should You Give Up Your Cable for Online TV?

There are now so many sites in the internet which offers online TV. In fact there are now some sites which can show live TV online. The only difference between online TV and cable TV is the membership and the subscription. Because many are stuck on the internet anyway, is it a good idea to junk cable subscriptions and just go for the net?

Obviously there are pros and cons to both cable and the internet and it is best to consider the following factors before making a decision.

Subscription Costs – obviously cable needs to be paid monthly, but then so do online TV. In fact, there are some areas where the cable subscription can be so high depending on the server company and most of the time there is a limit to the channels being offered. In other areas, unlimited channels are offered and the subscription costs are lower. When it comes to the internet there are a lot of sites which ask for a yearly or monthly fee, but there are others which do not.
Video Quality – many say that nothing beats cable TV and then there are those who say the same thing about online TV. But where cable TV offers smooth viewing, there are issues about the buffering when the video loads into the computer. Sometimes the net can be so slow that the buffering can interrupt as much as 20 to 30 times in a 42 minute show and the interruptions are sometimes in the middle of words or worse in the middle of an intense scene. It can be frustrating really.

Scheduling – when it comes to scheduling shows, online beats cable hands down. When watching cable you need to go over the TV guides just to get the schedule of which shows are going to be showing when. Online there is no need for TV guides, movies and TV episodes are open to be accessed. All the viewer has to do is to choose their show and click on it. No scheduling is needed.

Old Movies and Episodes – these are easily accessed anytime of the day, any day of the week. But there are also sites which offer streams of the entire series all day long in a continuous loop. So all you need to do is log in and watch whatever is showing in loops.
Free Sites – there are some sites which are absolutely free like YouTube and you can access any TV show or movies without having to deal with registering for it. In fact, only those who wish to make comments and upload their own shows have the option to register. Once a member, all features are free to use.
