Fat loss programs place a lot of importance on a good diet, a good amount of regular exercise and a good night's sleep. However, not everybody finds it easy to always get a good sleep. This can be due to the presence of sleep disorders like sleep apnoea or insomnia. Therefore, to achieve your weight loss goals, it is important to get rid of the disastrous sleep disorders.
Insomnia is one of the worst sleep disorders and is one of the leading causes of obesity. Chronic insomnia can seriously hamper the body's hunger generating and controlling hormones: ghrelin and leptin. This makes it very difficult for people to keep to a good fat loss program. Ghrelin increases appetite while leptin affects the body weight. When you are facing consistent lack of sleep, these two hormones will increase your hunger pangs, leading to greater accumulation of fat in the body due to over-eating.
Next, lack of sleep can also increase levels of the stress hormone - cortisol. Cortisol can lead to you having a false sense of hunger even if you are full. Thus if someone does not get sufficient sleep, even if they have taken an adequate meal may still feel hungry. Excessive sleep loss also causes decreases in the important growth hormones that are needed to help regulate the body's proportions of muscle and fat. If these growth hormones are at very low levels, there is a high possibility that you will experience reduced ability to burn fat and grow more muscle.
Insomnia is very likely to cause problems in insulin resistance. Excess blood sugar will lead to a high degree of insulin resistance. Also, this makes it harder for your body to dispose of glucose. Inability to do this will lead to greater chance of attaining diseases like diabetes and obesity. Insomnia will also lead to low energy levels, making it harder for you to work out to burn calories.
Insomnia is a destructive disease that needs a quick treatment for it, otherwise you risk never achieving fat loss, making all the effort you put into a weight loss program useless. You can seek professional treatment for this sleep disorder you may be experiencing from, so that you can recover from it as soon as possible. Not only will you start to feel more energetic after recovering from it, you should also experience a quicker rate of fat loss!
