Internet connection speed is basically the capacity, in bytes per second, of an Internet connection when it transfers data between the Internet and a user's device. In modern terminology, data speed is measured in megabytes per second (Mbps) and kilobytes per second (Kbps). One megabyte is equal to 1024 kilobytes, so a connection of 1.0 Mbps 1000 times faster than a connection of 1.0 Kbps.
Your internet connection has 2 different speeds. The download speed and the download speed which are measured separately. In most cases, the download speed of a connection is faster than the download speed. For most users, this speed balance provides bandwidths for streaming and downloading which are a big part of our online business.
What is a good Internet connection speed?
There is no definitive answer. In general, the faster it is, the better. But speed often comes at a price, so if you have an Internet connection that provides too much speed, it can be money wasted. Based on the type of activity for which you use your Internet connection, here are some guidelines on the minimum speed that should be sufficient according to your needs.
Streaming Videos - Depending on the type of video, you need 3 Mbps for regular video, 5Mbps for HD video and 25 Mbps for 4k Ultra HD video
Music streaming - A speed of 2 Mbps should be sufficient.
Gaming - Gamers should have speeds of up to 10 Mbps for best performance.
Email navigation - To access your Gmail account and Facebook page, a speed of 0.5 to 5 Mbps is sufficient.
Skype or video calls - 0.5 Mbps is required for standard calls and 1.5 Mbps if you are using HD.
Heavy File Download - If you are downloading torrents or important HD movie files, you need the fastest connection possible, targeting up to 50 Mbps.
If you are used to loading a lot of files, you also want to ensure that your loading speed is adequate. Since, by default, this is usually the slowest speed, compared to the download speed, you can contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to increase the loading speed.
The United States Federal Communication Commission (FCC) updated specifications for the term “broadband” for Internet connections in 2015 and established that the minimum download speed was 25 Mbps and 3 Mbps for the speed of loading. This type of broadband is generally obtained through telephone or cable service companies using cable modems or ADSL in order to provide the connections.
