Sounds like a new Rock Band. Now Playing, "Pluto and the Plutoids". There are some new kids on the planetary block in our solar system. They are the plutoids not to be confused with dwarf planets, and moons of Pluto. Just to be clear. Charon is a moon of Pluto. Pluto is a dwarf and a Plutoid, Eris is a plutoid and Sedna is a dwarf. Dysnomia is a moon of Eris. Ceres is a dwarf but not a plutoid. Now that we've got that straight... n

The International Astronomical Union (IAU), meeting in Oslo, Norway, blindsided the astronomical community (not to mention astrologers) with a new definition for small, distant solar system bodies, the new definition reads "Plutoids is a celestial body in orbit around the Sun at a semimajor axis greater than that of Neptune that have sufficient mass for their self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that they assume a hydrostatic equilibrium (near-spherical) shape.

A new name has been bestowed on the "dwarf planet" whose discovery in 2005 rocked the solar system, sparked debate over "What is a planet?" and ultimately led to Pluto's removal from the planetary family. The dwarf planet, formerly known as 2003 UB313, is now called Eris, after the Greek goddess of discord and strife. In addition, Eris's moon will be called Dysnomia, the demon goddess of lawlessness and the daughter of Eris.

The International Astronomical Union resolved that issue last month at its meeting in Prague, Czech Republic, by shrinking the solar system from nine to eight planets, and putting Pluto, Eris and the largest known asteroid, Ceres, into a new category called dwarf planets. n

This is likely the first detection of the long-hypothesized "Oort cloud," a faraway repository of small icy bodies that supplies the comets that streak by Earth. Other notable features of Sedna include its size and reddish color. After Mars, it is the second reddest object in the solar system. It is estimated Sedna is approximately three- fourths the size of Pluto. Sedna is likely the largest object found in the solar system since Pluto was discovered in 1930n
Sedna is extremely far from the sun, in the coldest known region of our solar system, where temperatures never rise above minus 240 degrees Celsius (minus 400 degrees Fahrenheit). The planetoid is usually even colder, because it approaches the sun only briefly during its 10,500- year solar orbit. At its most distant, Sedna is 130 billion kilometers (84 billion miles) from the sun, which is 900 times Earth's solar distance. The elliptical orbit of Sedna is unlike anything previously seen by astronomers. It resembles the orbits of objects predicted to lie in the hypothetical Oort cloud--a distant reservoir of comets.

Pluto. Then it will begin its 10,500-year trip back to the far reaches of the solar system. "The last time Sedna was this close to the sun, Earth was just coming out of the last ice age. The next time it comes back, the world might again be a completely different place," says Dr. Mike Brown of Caltech.

Plutoid on the Makemake
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named its first plutoid. The Kuiper belt object formerly known as 2005 FY9 has been rechristened “Makemake” and classified as both a dwarf planet and plutoid. Makemake is fifty times further away from the Sun than we are and its orbital period is 310 Earth years. It has an apparent magnitude of about 16.7, which makes it bright enough to be visible using high-end amateur telescopes. The plutoid is named for a Polynesian God and is pronounced “mahki-mahki”.

The IAU announced the new category of plutoid last month at a meeting of its executive committee in Oslo. The category covers what it calls “transneptunian dwarf planets similar to Pluto”. Plutoids orbit the Sun at a distance generally greater than that of Neptune and have a minimum defined magnitude of brightness. Makemake now joins the two other two known and named plutoids Eris and Pluto itself. The IAU fully expects that more plutoids will be named as science progresses and new discoveries are made.

The plutoid Makemake was discovered in Easter 2005 by astronomers at Califo
ia’s Palomar . Mike Brown of Caltech says the planet is two thirds the size of Pluto and is the brightest object in the Kuiper Belt after Pluto itself. He says the surface is “covered with large amounts of almost pure methane ice, which is scientifically fascinating, but really not easily relatable to terrestrial mythology.”

Brown is also the discoverer of Eris which ultimately led to Pluto’s demotion from the major planets. Pluto and Eris joined a new category called dwarf planets which also included Ceres which lies in the asteroid belt betwee
Mars and Jupiter. However because of its location, Ceres can not be considered a plutoid.

The latest Plutoid is named after a Polynesian bird God. Sedna was married off to a raven. I am kind of seeing pattern here in the influence of the sea birds and bird people with the new planetary influences being brought by these new dwarfs. As a Native American I have been taught to pay attention to the animals. The bird people have many lessons to teach us beyond swirling seagulls on land meaning a storm at sea. If we begin to pay attention to what nature is saying we can see changes before they happen. The bird people, the sea birds, the sea creatures, the whales and the dolphins. the quickly diminishing sea life that has disappeared in great numbers only recently are telling us a story. n
Changes are coming and the animal kingdom is aware of those changes. We need only to pay attention to our animal brothers to know how sick Mother Earth is.
Take responsibility for your life and your creations. We create this world collectively by what we decide, together as a group, will be reality. That is Quantum physics and the world is what we create it to be in our group consciousness.

Sedna is teaching us respect, Venus is teaching us love. These two galactic beams are bombarding the Earth with a new pattern of sacred geometry. n
