"Start a Profitable Global International Trade Import Export Business". Become licensed as a Customs Broker. What is a Customs Broker? Glad you asked. Customs Brokers are private individuals, partnerships, associations or corporations licensed, regulated, and empowered by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to assist importers and exporter i meeting Federal requirements governing imports and exports. Brokers submit necessary information and appropriate payments to CBP on behalf of their clients and charge them a fee for this service. Brokers must have expertise in entry procedures, admissibility requirements, classification, valuation, and the rates of duty and applicable taxes and fees for imported merchandise. According the US Customs and Border Protection Agency, there are approximately 11,000 active Customs Brokers in the United States. Who is eligible to become qualified as a Customs Broker?
Be a United Stated Citizen at least 21 years old.
Not be a current federal Government employee
Possess good moral character.
Assuming that you are eligible. 1. First you must pass the Customs Broker License Examination.
The Customs Brokers license Examination is administered by the US Customs and Border Protection Agency. The Examination is an open book/open test with 80 multiply choice questions based on US Customs Policies and Procedures and more. The examinations is 4 hours and completed on answer sheets. The examination is normally given on the first Monday in April and the first Monday in October.
Passing score is 75% or better.
