Start Your Day Off on the Right Foot

Ever notice that if you start off your day badly, it seems to spill over into your entire day? You had a lousy sleep and the alarm is screaming in your ear seemingly minutes after you have gone to bed. You get soap in your eyes in the shower, have no time for breakfast, spill your coffee, get stuck in terrible traffic and arrive late at work! So, how are you feeling now? Pretty stressed out and frazzled probably! How well will you be able to deal with any issues that come up?
Let’s back things up a bit and see how we can make this scenario better. To start off with, develop a regular schedule for going to bed to allow you enough rest every night. Make sure you are settling down an hour before bedtime to prepare you to relax and get to sleep better and faster. When morning arrives, you will feel more rested and not have that terrible start before even stepping out of bed! There are times that you just will not get a good night sleep, but if it only happens once in a while, you will not suffer so badly the next day.
Which brings me to the next point. Get up early enough that you have time to get ready without rushing. It is great to get your heart pumping, but rather than running around like crazy getting ready to go, stick to cardio for that! You will avoid the old soap in the eye, spilled coffee and missed breakfast. Speaking of which, breakfast is the best way to get some good nutrition and fuel you for the morning. Just be sure to choose healthy options and keep away from the sugary or fatty options.
So now you are ready to drive to the office. Have some CD’s that you enjoy (music or motivational speakers) and take the time in bumper-to-bumper traffic to think about the things that you enjoy. Think about the wonderful people and things in your life. You cannot control the traffic, but you can control how you react to it and what you do with that time.
Now you can arrive at work ready for the day and feeling great about yourself!
